IRCO DIRT TRACK HEROES CAR SHOW
ENTERPRISE CAR SALES PRESENT. . . . . .
CAMPERS WORLD TRUCK STAR SEAN CORR SLATED FOR FRIDAY APPEARANCE AT IRCO DIRT TRACK HEROES CAR SHOW AT PHILLIPSBURG MALL
The IRCO Community Federal Credit Union Seventh Annual Dirt Track Heroes Show presented by Enterprise Car Sales has added some additional driving talent coming to the show on Friday as the successful show heads into the final two days of the event on Friday and Saturday. The seventh annual edition of the show will continue through March 8th with sponsorship through IRCO, Smith Fabrications and the Stage One Modifieds, Martocci's Automotive, Hamlin Speedway/S&S Speedways, Kim's Kreations, R&F International Muffler and Brake, Persa Auto Repair, Murante Auto Repair, Penn Jersey Super Markets and Auto and Enterprise Car Sales. Nightly interviews and 83 race cars provide the race fan a full appetite of racing fun before the regular seasons begins. The Phillipsburg Mall, located on Route 22 East in Phillipsburg, NJ, has proven to be a popular setting for this special event and offers a multitude of race cars, racing memorabilia, collectibles and photos on display throughout the course of the show. The show continues to be free of charge to the mall traffic and the 20 14 edition of the show is the trend setter of the many shows that are scheduled during the year.
Coming to fruition in the past couple of days, NASCAR Campers World Truck Racing Series driving star Sean Corr has notified the Dirt Track Heroes staff he will once again pay the IRCO sponsored Dirt Track Heroes Show a visit sometime on Friday. Sean is coming off an excellent run at Daytona in February when he raced from deep in the pack to run with the leaders in the top five when a Parker Kligerman crash triggered a massive pile-up that caught Sean up in it and ruined a solid finish for the Goshen, New York resident. Even with the disappointment, Sean knew he had a truck capable of running up front and has the team pumped up with confidence as they plan the rest of their limited 2014 racing schedule. Corr's Empire Racing sponsored race car team headed up by Crew Chief Ben Leslie and Team Manager John Bellesfield and owned by Sean's father John Corr, feel they have a race truck capable of running up front all season long and winning in the popular racing series. Corr has enjoyed some great moments while competing across the country as he enjoyed a great season in 2011 when he vaulted into the top ten with a ninth place finish in the final ARCA points and enjoyed great runs all season long in his Empire Racing Ford race car as he completed all 19 races on the ARCA Schedule, but in 2012 and 2013 ran a limited schedule of a few select races. Corr has many local ties to the area and is a past champion at the Orange County Fair Speedway in Middletown, New York, has won events at the Moody Mile in Syracuse, New York and it was his vast experience of racing on the dirt surfaces that enabled him to earn some great finishes at both Springfield and DuQuoin on the mile long dirt tracks on the ARCA racing schedule in 2011. Sean will be on hand to meet and greet his racing fans and sign autographs before departing on his next racing adventure.
Former NASCAR Sportsman Champion Bill Wimble will be on hand for the Friday portion of the "Legends of Racing" show at 4 PM and will be joined by the "Everett Express" Gerald Chamberlain, who will be on board for the final two days of the event. Saturday will feature a tribute to show Grand Marshal, Ken Brenn Sr and the Brenn Racing Family presented by the Flemington Speedway Racing Historical Society and the Dirt Track Heroes Show.
The longtime broadcasting team of Ed and Steve Pados from Gasoline Alley fame, veteran announcer Bobby Stull and former Lake Mocatek co-announcer Justin Beltrame will head up the announcing team for the week long show. IRCO Vice President Greg Collins, who also serves as the noted historian of the Harmony Speedway, is expected to have much of his memorabilia from the Harmony Speedway for the event and Beltrame will once again spearhead and show the vast collection of Lake Mocatek mat erial he has collected over the years.
The "Golden Era" of auto racing from the late fifties through the early eighties was an era that saw many changes take place in the way the race cars were constructed. The word "stock" gave way to ingenuity at first and followed closely by technology as the race cars became less stock appearing and relied more heavily on the latest speed part that would make the race car go faster. While the years have changed the look and the cost of racing, the spirit of the competition remains much as it was when racing in the local area was first launched. The great fan base of racing can come out to this grand Mall event and be transported back to a time when they could hop into their family jitney and travel less than a half hour to witness the excitement of a night at the races. All historical racing groups including Reading, Flemington, Harmony through Greg Collins, Tri State, Friends of Nazareth and Bob Snyder Photos and Snyder Video will have their memorabilia on display and their many scrapbooks open for the fans to take another long look at the glory years of racing and possibly find a picture or two they want to purchase as a keepsake from past glory or racing exploits.
In the previous events, cars that were on display included big and small block Modifieds, Sportsman, Micro-Sprints, ARDC Midgets, URC Sprints, TSRS Sprints, Late Models, go-karts, quarter midgets and a broad variety of vintage and restored race cars. New Egypt, Grandview, Big Diamond, Bridgeport, Hamlin, Accord, Action Track USA, Borger's and Snydersville will again be among the many speedways involved with the 2013 show.
The IRCO Dirt Track Heroes Car Show will again offer a great keepsake event souvenir program book and shirt. The Phillipsburg Mall is open Sunday 11 AM to 6 PM and from Monday through Saturday from 10 AM to 9 PM. For additional IRCO Dirt Track Heroes information, contact show organizers Bob and Donna Miller by phone at 443.513.4456. The event offers race teams a great opportunity to promote their sponsors and announce their racing plans for the 2014 racing season.
