ACCORD, NY – Sportsman competitors will be in
the limelight as the New York Truck Parts ‘Battle of the Bullring’ approaches on
Tuesday, August 6 (rain date: Aug. 7) at Accord
Speedway.
A pair of marketing
partners has driven up both ends of the purse for the 25-lap Sportsman event to
be contested as part of the first midweek Modified event at the Ulster County
facility since May 14, 2003. While the big-block/small-block Modifieds compete
for $5,100-plus in a 51-lap event, the Sportsman main will also be
lucrative.
Thanks to Ultimate
Restoration of Danbury, Conn., the winner’s share for the 25-lapper has been
boosted to $1,500 for just 25 laps of racing on the quarter-mile. Above All Auto
Repair in Highland, N.Y., increased the payout for the final 10 positions in the
field. Sportsman racers will now earn $100 to take the green flag. Above All
Auto Repair has also posted a $100 bonus to the halfway leader (lap 13) in the
event.
The Sportsman event at Accord is
open to both 602 Crate competitors and Open Sportsman with staggered minimum
weights for both combinations with steel and aluminum wheels. Complete rules are
available at www.bdmotorsportsmedia.com. A draw for position with a redraw of top
qualifiers will set the lineup.
The Modified event,
dubbed “The Big Race A Little Guy Can Win” while the touring Super DIRTcar
Series teams are off racing in Michigan, will also reward competitors with a
large payout and bonuses. From a guaranteed purse, $1,000 is reserved for the
fifth-place finisher, with $500 for 10th and $300 to take the green
flag plus a long list of special awards including cash and
product.
Modified competitors
will draw for heat-race starting positions with a redraw of top qualifiers for
the 51-lap main event. Heats and consolations will set the initial field of 24.
The first six drivers not qualifying via the consolations will transfer to a
last chance ‘Bull Rush’ dash. First and second positions transfer into the main
starting in fully paid 25th and 26th positions thanks to
Elmo’s Auto Body (Ballston Lake, N.Y., and Scotia, N.Y.) and Superior Remodeling
(Slate Hill, N.Y.).
Modified heat winners
transfer into the Joe Winne Memorial Dash for Cash paying $555 to the victor.
Fans will enter into a
“carnival” atmosphere at the ‘Battle of the Bullring’ event. A chicken barbecue
in the grandstands offers chicken, macaroni salad and baked beans for $7. Brave
attendees can try their hand at a mechanical bull set up in the midway.
Collectibles and custom event apparel will be on sale. A pre-race meet and greet
with competitors in both divisions is planned starting at 5:30 p.m. with DJ Tim
Adams providing musical
entertainment.
For traveling
visitors, camping is free of charge and encouraged on the speedway grounds.
There are no hook-ups.
On Tuesday, pit gates
will open at 4 p.m. Grandstand gates swing open at 5 p.m. Hot laps begin at 6:45
p.m. with the first Modified qualifying heat rolling onto the speedway promptly
at 7:15 p.m.
Adult grandstand
admission is $20, with Seniors (65 and over) $16 and Kids (11 and under) $5.
Indoor tower seating is $25. Pit
admission is $35 (no license required).
Complete rules and race information
have been posted at www.bdmotorsportsmedia.com.
