EXTRAORDINARY EVENTS ARE SET FOR BRIDGEPORT SPEEDWAY’S 60 OVER SPECIAL

Bridgeport, NJ (March 15, 2013) – On Saturday, March 30, the 42nd
season of racing at Bridgeport Speedway gets started with the “The 60
Over Special” Race of Champions Big Block Modified race in memory of
Doug Hoffman. Many extraordinary events are being planned for this
year’s opener that honors the late promoter who passed away on
December 24, 2012. To start the day, Katie Todorow, Miss Motorsports
2013, is scheduled to be on hand. An Easter Egg Hunt will occur in the
quarter mile pit area near the main grandstand entrance. A balloon
launch is slated to be held before the first qualifying race takes
place. Introduced last season and very popular with fans, the Big
Block Modifieds will be staged on the midway behind the spectator
stands. After being on display throughout the day, a restored “60
Over” 1986 Olsen Modified formerly driven by Doug Hoffman will pace
the feature line-up. Just before the 60-lap race begins, the missing
man formation will take shape on the 5/8th mile. Joette Hoffman,
Doug’s daughter, will wave the green flag to get the contest, the
first event of the 2013 Big Block Modified Poker Series, underway. All
fans and crew members are encouraged to stand on the opening circuit
and final tour of the race. Several new novelty items will be on sale
during this event including a Doug Hoffman photo collage and memorial
sticker. 2013 Poker Series shirts and hoodies can be purchased as well.

The winner of this race can line their pockets with $6,060.60 if they
enrolled in the recently added “60 Over Challenge”, a $60 gambler’s
fee, instead of the originally posted $4000 first place award. A
large and very competitive field of Big Block Modified drivers is
expected to be on hand for this one of a kind event. Bridgeport
Speedway regulars such as Rick Laubach, Richie Pratt, Jr., Jimmy
Horton, and Ryan Watt will be competing against a slew of invaders
including Brett Hearn, Danny Johnson, Stewart Friesen, Ryan Godown,
Duane Howard, Billy Decker, Pat Ward, Larry Wight, Jimmy Phelps, and
Billy Pauch, Sr.

In addition, two other classes with extra distance races will be in
competition. A 30-lap feature for the new Crate/Sportsman division
will serve as the opening hand of their Poker Series. The new Shoot
Out Series for the Outlaw Stock Cars gets underway with the “Bill
Reynolds Memorial 20” in memory of the former novelty stand owner at
Bridgeport Speedway. All three divisions will have qualifying races
and consolation events before their main events.

On Saturday, March 30, the pit gates unlock at 11:00 a.m. and fans can
begin to enter the grandstands at 1:00 p.m. Warm-ups will get started
at 3:00 p.m. with the first heat race hitting the track at 4:00 p.m.
Adult (16 and older) admission for the opener will be $25 with
students (10-15) being admitted for $12. Kids 9 and under are free.
Admittance to the pits is $35.

Before the March 30 event, drivers will have an opportunity to test
their 2013 rides. A shared practice day for Friday and Saturday night
competitors is slated for Saturday, March 23. The 5/8th mile racers
can assess their machines from noon until 4:00 p.m. with pit gates
unlocking at 9:00 a.m. Drivers who compete on the quarter mile can try
their racecars from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. with their pit area
opening at noon. Sunday, March 24 has been reserved as a rain date for
this combined practice with the same times. The 5/8th mile racers will
have one extra practice session on Friday, March 29. This test and
tune period will be for three hours with the pit gates opening at 4:00
p.m. and practice starting at 6:00 p.m. Competitors racing on
Saturday, March 30 may leave their trailers in the pit area on Friday,
March 29. Pit admission for any practice is $25 per session and no
license is required. Fans can watch all of the practices for free in
the main grandstand.
