PREPARATIONS
ARE COMPLETE - ALL SYSTEMS A GO FOR BIG DIAMOND OPENER THIS
SUNDAY.
MINERSVILLE, PA - March 20th, 2013
The mall show is over,
all off season improvements to the track are complete, and last weeks test and
tune and Enduro is now in the books. That can only mean one thing. Opening
day!
This Sunday, March 24th, Big Diamond Speedway is pleased to present
the start of the 2013 race season for the Modifieds, Sportsman, and
Roadrunners. This is the 41st consecutive season of racing at the 3/8's mile
oval, located in Forestville, PA, and it is shaping up to be one of the best in
the history of the track.
Opening day finds the mighty Modifieds
competing in a points paying 30 lap event that pays $3,000 to win and $300 to
take the green. Defending track champion Craig Von Dohren is expected to be on
hand to begin defense of his title. It will not be easy, as a host of others,
including Jeff Strunk, Frank Cozze, Meme Desantis, Doug Manmiller, Kevin Albert
Jr., and many more will be looking to replace Craig as point
champion.
Also on the card that day will be the Sportsman competing in a
20 lap event paying $1,000 to win and the always exciting Roadrunners, who will
go 20 laps for a $300 top prize.
Gates open at 1:00 PM, racing begins at
4:00 PM. Pit admission is $30 for those with a valid pit license and $40 for
those without a license. Adult general admission is $20. Seniors, active
military, and students ages 13 to 17 are all $18 with valid ID. As always, kids
12 and under are free. Also available on this day will be the RockAuto.com
family four pack. The family four pack will consist of two adult and two
student general admission tickets, two hot dogs, two hamburgers, and four drinks
for $75.
Upon entering the track, fans will notice many asthetic
improvement to the facility, along with an expanded food menu, but with lower
food and drink prices.
One car from each division will be on display in
the grandstand area from 2:30 to 3:15 PM in order to give the fans an up close
and personal experience. This will be a weekly attraction for the 2013
season.
The following Friday, March 29th, the Modifieds, Sportsman, and
Roadrunners return for a regular show, but on this night they will be joined by
the Street Stocks. The Street Stocks are returning to Big Diamond Speedway for
the first time since the mid to late 90's. This will be the first of eight
events slated for them in 2013.
Then on Friday, April 5th, it's the event
everyone has been waiting for since it was first announced back in October. The
first ever 40 lap "Money in the Mountains" big block/small block challenge race
paying $7,500 to win and $500 to take the green. Several drivers from New York,
New Jersey, and Delaware have expressed their intentions to come compete in this
event. Throw in the always tough track regulars, and this will be a show you do
not want to miss.
As an added bonus on this day, one "unlucky" driver who
fails to qualify will win the "Fans of Big Diamond/Dog Pound Hard Luck Award"
Put together by Big Diamond's #1 fan Diamond Dog, this award pays $700 to one
driver who fails to make the feature event.
Also on the card that day
will be the Sportsman and Roadrunners, both competing in 20 lap feature
events.
The 2013 race season at Big Diamond is starting off fast and
furious. Make sure you are there for all of the exciting action.
