BROWN AND WILSON ARE VICTORIOUS IN GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY NEETS SEASON FINALE…By Gary Lileck Bechtelsville, PA - October 16, 2011 - The North East Enduro Tour Series held their points finale this past Sunday at Grandview Speedway. The 7th version of the “Mutha of all Enduros” featured a pair of 150-lap events. Jason Brown of Schuylkill Haven PA captured his first career victory in the Big Car division while Steve Wilson of Green Lane PA was victorious in the Small Car event. Brown has been a consistent and front running driver since he began racing in the Enduro series. He has been so close to victory, and the moment of truth officially arrived in Sunday’s 150-lap event. Brown started 22nd in the field and impressively worked his way to the front. Brown steered his #8 machine into the top spot past race leader Justen Steigerwalt on lap 86. During the final 64 laps, Brown enjoyed a comfortable lead but survived a near scare with traffic at about the 20-to-go margin. Despite a late race red flag stoppage, Brown remained in front and drove to the hard earned victory. It just so happened that Brown’s first career triumph was attained in the season’s largest race, the Mutha of All Enduros. An ecstatic Brown celebrated his victory in the winner’s circle. When asked who he would like to thank for their help, Brown was quick to answer “Everybody!”. A large contingent of competitors were quick to offer their congratulations to the victorious driver. Brown became the fourth different Big Car winner in seven points paying events held this season. It was his sixth top ten finish of the year, as he only finished outside of the front ten on one occasion. Tim Pauch of Stockton NJ finished 2.29 seconds behind the race winning driver and unofficially clinched his third straight points championship. Pauch, a three-time winner this season, enjoyed an incredible year aboard his potent #5 machine. To go along with those three triumphs, Pauch also tallied a trio of runner-up finishes this year. Brandon Guyer (Ivyland PA) concluded a strong 2011 season with a third place result after starting from 20th. Drew Ott (Schwenksville PA), a winner this year, raced from 17th to fourth. The top four cars finished on the lead lap. Steigerwalt, who led a good portion of the contest, was lapped in the final stages and finished a solid fifth. Chuck Eckert narrowly defeated Pauch to claim the exciting victory in the winner take all dash for cash. In the Small Car event, Wilson began his quest from the final starting position, 33rd. He went a lap down earlier in the race but valiantly made a charge through the field. Wilson worked past Dave Bentley Sr. with 50 laps remaining and set a blistering pace during the contest’s remaining moments. Wilson won the event by 7.60 seconds over Bentley. It was his third victory of the season and fifth overall as he was also a winner this year at Big Diamond Speedway and New Egypt Speedway. Justin Dunn of Yardville NJ finished in the third spot, matching his best effort of the year. Don Daigneault of Earlville PA finished in fourth and Brian Smith rounded out the top five. Smith of Washington NJ capped off an impressive season with a first ever point championship (unofficial at this time). Smith entered the afternoon with a slim two point lead and extended his advantage by day’s end. Smith ended 2011 with six top 10 finishes, including a season’s best of 2nd. The Small Car race saw a pair of nasty accidents during its course. Jake Daigneault flipped wildly on the front stretch near the starter’s stand. The young racer was able to climb out of his machine uninjured. Later, on lap 63, Tracy Carmen rolled over in turn one. She was not injured. Ken Wallace of Woodlyn PA won a spirited 10-lap dash for cash in the event’s closing stages. The regular season has concluded for the NEETS tour at Grandview Speedway. Stay tuned to the official tour website, www.neetsracing.com for updated information on the upcoming 2012 rules meeting. NEETS would like to thank all competitors, teams, fans, and the Grandview Speedway for a great 2011 season.
