Rain Stops Penn Can Speedway 'King of the Can' Modified Event Sunday at Penn Can Speedway

SUSQUEHANNA, PA - After losing Friday's scheduled 'King of the Can' event to wet weather, rain again intervened at Penn Can Speedway on Sunday afternoon, forcing the event's postponement for a second time.

With an all-star field of 40 Modifieds pitside that included Alan Johnson, Stewart Friesen, Pat Ward, Jeff Strunk, Duane Howard and many more, showers first moved over the Susquehanna, Pa., area when the gates opened at 2 p.m. and continued on and off for several hours. The event promotional team of track managers Reed Miller and Al Wilcox and special events promoter Brett Deyo attempted to wait out the weather. However, heavier rain moved over the speedway shortly after 5 p.m. forcing the postponement.

Look for an announcement later on Monday with an official rain date. Officials are reviewing two dates (Oct. 30 and Nov. 13) which were announced in the pit area on Sunday.

The '11 big-block/small-block Modified 'King of the Can' event pays $5,000 to the winner with a $20 "gambler's fee" at Penn Can. That is an increase of $1,000 over the 2010 event. Additionally, lap money has been collected to boost the possible cash take even higher! All laps have been sponsored at a $25 per lap minimum. 'It's good to be king' at Penn Can Speedway in 2011.

Run as a BD Motorsports Media co-promotion with track managers Reed Miller and Al Wilcox for the first time, the 'King of the Can' is certain to attract an all-star field of Modifieds to the one-third-mile oval centrally located on the Keystone State side of the Pennsylvania/New York border.

The 'King of the Can' has been the signature Penn Can event since 1999 when Brian Weaver of Windsor, N.Y., took the inaugural victory. Weaver will be in attendance at this year's event.

Kevin Bates of Lake Ariel, Pa., won last year's 50-lap 'King of the Can' event.

Joining the Modifieds on the 'King of the Can' will be Crate (602) Sportsman ($1,000 to win) and Street Stocks in a $500-to-win event.

The 2011 King of the Can is presented by Don's Automotive Mall, Gary's U-Pull-It, Pioneer Pole Buildings, VP Racing Fuels, Trackside Products, Bob Hilbert Sportswear, BFP Specialty, S&D Bodyline, Shiley Fabrication, American Racer/Lias Tire and BD Motorsports Media.
