Friday's Severe Storms Force Schedule Changes For Remainder of Big Diamond Speedway 2011 Season; Coalcracker 100 Approaching On Sept. 4
MINERSVILLE, PA - Severe storms dumping heavy rain, wind and hail forced Big Diamond Speedway management to pull the plug on Friday night's program. The decision to cancel was made mid-afternoon to prevent teams and fans from traveling in the hazardous weather. The precipitation did prompt some schedule changes as time winds down on the 2011 season at the Schuylkill County oval.

The $1,500-to-win Coalcracker 50 for the U.S.S. Achey Sportsman has been moved to this Friday (Aug. 26) and will now be a points-paying show featuring a handicapped start. Also, the Coca-Cola Classic Challenge for The Station House 358-Modifieds ($1,000 to win, $75 per round) will take place featuring one-on-one match races for the top-11 drivers in the 358 standings. The 358-Mods will run a full program (qualifying and 25-lap feature) along with the Wooden Keg Tavern Roadrunners (qualifying and 20-lap feature). Gates open at 5 p.m. with hot laps at 7:55 p.m. and racing at 8:15 p.m.

Friday, Sept. 2 will now be Championship Night at the speedway featuring the final points-paying event of 2011 for the 358-Modifieds (qualifying and 25-lap feature), Sportsman (qualifying and 20-lap feature) and Roadrunners (qualifying and 20-lap feature). Doug Borger's XCel 600 Modifieds complete the program. Gates open at 5 p.m. with hot laps at 7:30 p.m. and racing at 7:45 p.m. Please take note of the earlier start time.

The format for the 31st running of the Coalcracker 100 for 358-Modifieds remains the same for Sunday, Sept. 4. The 358-Mod event pays $10,000 to the winner and $300 to take the green flag. Roadrunners join the 358-Mods with a 20-lap feature plus qualifying.

Gates open at 4 p.m. on Sunday with hot laps at 7 p.m. and racing at 7:30 p.m. Grandstand admission is $25 for Adults, $22 for Seniors/Military with ID, $8 for Kids 6-12 and those five and under are FREE.

Pit admission is $35 (no license required). All cars must be registered. Pre-registration is $25 and race-day registration is $50. The 358-Mod registration form has been posted on www.bigdiamondspeedway.net.

Winners during the 2010 edition of the Coalcracker weekend were Duane Howard (358-Modified), Mike Loney (Sportsman 50), John Willman (358-Modified Non-Winner's) and Ricky Bender (Roadrunner). The Coalcracker 358 event was first run at Big Diamond in 1979 and Bob Emerich picked up the victory. In 1997 the race was lengthened to its current 100-lap distance with Jeff Strunk driving the Keith Roussey-owned car to the win.

358-Modifieds and Roadrunners will feature an open draw during the Coalcracker weekend for the heats with a redraw of the top qualified cars for the main events.

358-Modifieds should reference the Big Diamond/Grandview engine rules. Big Diamond Sportsman rules can be found on the speedway website.

For both Sportsman and 358-Modifieds, teams will not be mandated to run BGP-stamped American Racer tires. Approved American Racer compounds are as follows: Right-Rear: 44/48/50 - Left-Rear: 44/48 - Right-Front: 33/38/44 - Left-Front: 33/38/44.

For the 358-Modifieds, all restarts will be double-file until lap 90. After lap 90, restarts go single file with lapped cars at the back of the field. Transponders are mandatory and one-way radios (467.000) will be in use.

There will be a lap-50 fuel stop in the 358-Mod 100. Teams will have 10 minutes to fuel and adjust air pressure but no tools are permitted. After the on-track stop, a pair of pace laps will allow teams to make a pit stop and rejoin the field at the rear.

Lap sponsorships are on sale for the Coalcracker weekend. Interested parties should contact Dave Gehman of D&D Media, the official program book publishers, by phone at 610.972.5805 or at e-mail: danddmedia2011@hotmail.com.

Registration is also open on the Big Diamond Speedway website for the Enduro Nationals set for Sunday, Sept. 11 featuring a 139-lap, $2,000-to-win event open to all Enduro cars (Big Cars & Small Cars). Registration is $100 per car.
