Speed-Week Slingshot Event Saturday August 5 along with Karts, Quads and Xcel Modifieds, Racing at the Reading Fair starts Sunday with the Quarter Midgets joining in on the activities this year!

Starting on Saturday August 5th, the staff of Shellhammer’s Speedway are in for a busy week. Saturday evening, the racing action will return as the Karts, Xcel Modifieds, Quads and the Slingshots are back in action for their normal evening of racing. As the summer is winding down, the action is heating up as the coveted points championships are on the line and there are only a few races left to try and take over the top spot in each of the classes. This Saturday evening the Slingshot racers will be taking part in their Speed-Week action, while the Xcel Modifieds will be having a non points event.
Sunday morning, the track crew will be up bright and early prepping the Reading Fair racing surface for the start of 4 events they will be hosting at the track. Sunday the Karts, PA Mini Pro Tractors, PA Winged Outlaws, Quads and new this year, the Quarter Midgets will be showing off their talents to the fair goers. The Quarter Midgets will run the following classes: Sr Honda, Heavy Honda, Jr Honda, Lite 160, Heavy 160, Light World Formula, Heavy World Formula, Sr. Animal and Unrestricted Animal. Quarter Midget registration will run from 10 am to 12 noon with the driver’s meeting at12:15 pm. USAC Rules and weights will apply to the Quarter Midget divisions competing. The pit gates will open at 9 am, registration is from 10-11:20 and the drivers meeting will start promptly at noon for all divisions except the Quarter Midgets. The engines will then roar to life for the practice sessions that will start at 12:30.
Monday evening, August 7, at the Reading Fair, the 270 Wingless Micro Sprints, Junior and Senior Slingshots will be the main attraction for the fans. The Senior Slingshots will run a 25 lap feature event with $25 to take the green and $500 for the win. The Junior Slingshots will have a 15 lap feature offering $100 to win and $25 to take the green. Pre-registration is only $40 car and driver and it will be $50 at the track that evening to enter. Joining the slingshots will be the “Wingless" 270 Micro Sprints who will have a 25 lap feature that will start 18 fastest qualifiers plus guaranteed starters and the payout is $400 to win and $30 to take the green. Wingless 270 Pre-registration is $45 car and driver and will be $50 at the track.
Tuesday evening, August 8 at the Reading Fair, the Senior Slingshots will have a 40 lap feature, with the payout being $1,000 to win, $50 to take the green, Bonus payout offer for that that have pre-registration. Pre-registration is $75 car and driver and will be $100 at the track. If a driver pre-registers for both days, total entry fee is discounted to $105. There is a $250 bonus to Senior Slingshot driver who is able to win both features on Monday and Tuesday evening. The Junior Slingshots will run a full show with 15 lap feature offering $100 to win and $25 to take the green. Pre-registration is $40 car and driver and $50 at the track.
The racing action will resume Friday, August 11 with the Four Cylinder Stock Cars and Vintage Car Exhibition. There will be 2 50 lap features for the Four Cylinders and each feature will be limited to 20 starters.
Gates open at 2:30 pm Saturday afternoons. REGISTRATION IS 3:30 TO 5:00 PM. Warm-up/practice session starts at 5:00 pm. Call-in entries can be made up to 5:00pm and drivers will be placed in their original starting position. (If after 5:00 pm, driver will start in the rear of their class.)
