Sunday Stars: Charlie Hendrickson, Eric Leet Split Short Track Super Series Open Sportsman Events At Thunder Mountain; Kurt Decker Wins Chad Sindoni Memorial Street Stock Event; Other Winners Include Daryl Krebs (Street Stock), Don Harvey (Lightning Sprint), Jamie Frantz (XCel) & Rich Gardiner (FWD Four Cylinder)

CENTER LISLE, NY – Memorial Day rain set up a huge Labor Day weekend Sunday night at Thunder Mountain Speedway.
With a jam-packed pit area and seven feature races on the docket, Eric Leet and Charlie Hendrickson Jr. led the list of winners by each taking home $1,000 paydays in Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series Fueled By VP Open Sportsman features.
The well-attended program attracted 113 race cars to the Center Lisle three-eighths-mile track.
Hendrickson, a series regular from Cochecton, N.Y., wired the field in the rain-postponed 25-lap event from May 29. The win for Hendrickson – a Friday night mainstay at N.Y.’s I-88 Speedway - was his first in STSS Open Sportsman competition.
New Jersey’s J.R. Fulper finished second, followed by Chance Spoonhower and brothers Kevin and Chris Jordan.
A stout field of 35 STSS Sportsman signed in for the night’s regularly scheduled program.
Marathon, N.Y.’s Leet, the 2015 Thunder Mountain champion, returned from a hiatus through most of the summer to draw the pole and lead every lap of the 25-lap feature. Leet was pressured by current speedway point leader Brian White before he spun in turn two mid-race.
Chance Spoonhower completed a stout night with a runner-up finish, with Hendrickson, Billy Spoonhower and Fulper placing third through fifth, respectively.
The STSS Open Sportsman Series will conclude on Friday, October 7 at I-88 Speedway during the ninth Short Track SuperNationals special.
The highly anticipated Chad Sindoni Memorial for the Fight Night Street Stock Series saw Afton, N.Y., star Kurt Decker take home $700 plus lap money in the 34-lap event.
Doug Stack Jr. placed second over Jonathan Carpenter and Jared Dennis.
The nightcap 25-lap Street Stock $600 payday went to Port Byron, N.Y., driver Daryl Krebs driving his nephew Trevor Dudley’s No. 2D. Krebs was able to negotiate a tangle that swept up the top-three drivers and fend off the late advances of Matt Spencer.
Nick Robinson, Shane Wolf Jr. and Mike Wilbur completed the front five.
Don Harvey swept the weekend in Empire Lightning Sprint 1000cc action. The Milford, N.Y., resident handily won the division’s 20-lap main event with Shilo Boyce, Clint Roehrs, Jon Moore and Jerry Sehn following him below starter Ronnie Ford’s checkered flag.
PA driver Jamie Frantz pulled a bold inside move to take the lead from Saturday winner Chris Kithcart and top the XCel 600 Modified division’s 20-lap main. Frantz led Kithcart at the finish with Will Eastman, Paul DeRuyter and Eric Boyd trailing.
Rich Gardiner pulled off a hard-fought 15-lap FWD Four Cylinder win. Gardiner used the speedway’s inside lane to work under invader Chris Bonoffski and take the triumph.
Racing resumes at Thunder Mountain Speedway Saturday, September 10 with Championship Night paying $1,500 to win plus Open Sportsman, Crate 602 Sportsman, Rookie Sportsman, Street Stocks, XCel 600 Modifieds and FWD Four Cylinders. Point titles will be decided in all divisions.
Gates open at 4 p.m. with hot laps at 6:20 p.m. and racing at 7 p.m.
Adult grandstand admission is $12. Seniors (ages 65 and over) and Students (ages 10-17) pay $10. Kids 9 and under are FREE. Pit admission is $30, with no license required.
