GEORGETOWN, DE – Some 114 competitors tried their hand at a Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By VP Velocita South Region event in 2016.
One driver emerged as the champion: Stewart Friesen.
Last Tuesday night (August 30) at Delaware’s historic Georgetown Speedway, Sprakers, N.Y.’s Friesen locked up the STSS South Region championship in winning style, when he bested an all-star field to earn the ‘Blast at the Beach’ victory.
Friesen took the title by 54 points over Boyertown, Pa., star Ryan Watt, the 2015 South Region champ.
En route to the South Region crown – for which Friesen will earn $8,500 plus product and contingency awards – he finished every one of the series’ 314 feature laps. Friesen, driving Halmar International-backed No. 44 big- and small-block Modifieds, placed inside the top-10 in all seven races and won twice, first at Delaware International Speedway in May and again at Georgetown in the series’ finale.
The final spread for Friesen to Watt was 660-606 points.
Friesen had previously won the STSS North Region crown a year ago. He chased South points for the first time this season.
The top-10 drivers will share in the $25,250 cash posted point fund to be distributed in December.
