New Egypt, NJ (August 28, 2016) – At New Egypt Speedway’s Back to School
Night presented by National Parts Supply, Billy Pauch, Sr. mastered the field
to win the 358 Modified feature. Brandon Grosso was victorious in the Sportsman
main event. John Meyer took the checkered flag in the Street Stock race. In
non-point events, Kyle Kania took top honors in the Crate Modified feature
while Lou Cicconi won the Burlington County Overhead Door News Sprint contest.
At the start of the 30-lap 358 Modified feature, John Pakenham grabbed
the lead with Lou Cicconi in second. Just after the leaders were completing the
first circuit, the caution flag waved for Andrew Bohn. On the restart, Cicconi
blasted by Pakenham to take over the front running position. Billy Pauch, Sr.,
who started in tenth place, was quickly moving through the field as he had
reached fifth place with four laps completed. Two tours later, the yellow
lights flashed for Ryan Godown. When action resumed, Cicconi maintained his
advantage with Pakenham in second and Pauch, Sr. in third. Behind the top
three, fourteenth place starting Billy Pauch, Jr. was continuing his charge to
the top as he ascended into fourth with nine laps completed. Cicconi was
building a sizeable edge over his opponents when Clay Butler’s ride slowed and
the caution flag was shown on lap thirteen. When the green flag waved, Cicconi
was still on top with Pauch, Sr. slipping into the runner-up spot. Pauch, Jr.
advanced into third as the halfway point was displayed to the drivers. Cicconi
and Pauch, Sr. would dice for the lead for several laps until the yellow lights
lit up the dirt oval for Dominick Buffalino with ten circuits remaining. On the
restart, Pauch, Sr. scooted by Cicconi to take the lead with Pauch, Jr. in
third, John McClelland in fourth and David Van Horn in fifth. Although Pauch,
Sr., would lead the rest of the way, the other positions in the top five would
change. On the next lap, Van Horn marched into fourth and Godown, driving his
way back to the top from an earlier caution, motored into fifth. With seven
tours to go, Pauch, Jr. moved into second with Van Horn taking third. On the
next circuit, Godown went from fifth to third. As the checkered flag was waved,
it was Pauch, Sr. on top for his second win of 2016 and his one hundred
twenty-sixth Modified feature victory at New Egypt Speedway. Pauch, Jr.
finished second with Godown taking third. Van Horn was fourth and Cicconi’s
good run resulted in a fifth place outcome. John Pakenham and Lou Cicconi won
the 358 Modified heat races.
Brandon Grosso, the current leader in the chase for the Sportsman
championship, padded his advantage entering the final two point races by taking
the checkered flag in the 20-lap feature. JR Fulper took the lead at the start
of the event and led the first nine revolutions before Grosso took over. The
win was Grosso’s second in the division in 2016. Fulper completed the race in
second. Third went to Cale Ross, the track’s 2016 Rookie champion. TJ Lilly,
who won last Saturday’s feature, finished in fourth. Bob Lineman, Jr. completed
the top five. The Sportsman qualifying events were taken by JR Fulper and JT
Trstensky.
After ascending to the front on the seventh circuit, John Meyer held off
several challenges from Mick Search to win his first career Street Stock
feature. Todd Dige, who set the pace for the opening six tours of the 15-lap
contest, finished in third. Joe Reid came home in fourth and Bill Connelly was
fifth.
In the non-point 20-lap Crate Modified event, Rookie Kyle Kania
controlled the lead for the entire distance to win his first career feature.
The runner-up spot was claimed by Tom Tanner. Veteran Frank Dorry, Jr was
third. John Aumick and Brandon Grosso filled out the top five.
Lou Cicconi led from green to checkered and repelled the advances of
Ryan Godown in the final circuits to take the victory in the 20-lap non-point
Burlington County Overhead Door News Sprint contest. The win was the first for
Cicconi in the division. With Godown finishing second, Johnny Cornell completed
the race in third. Chris Moll was fourth with Wayne Weaver claiming fifth.
