Mark Your Calendars: HUGE Memorial Day Weekend Planned For Thunder Mountain Speedway May 28-29; Empire Super Sprints (ESS) $3,000 To Win Saturday, Short Track Super Series Fueled By VP $5,000 To Win Sunday; Something For All Fans!
CENTER LISLE, NY – Mark your calendars now.
Memorial Day weekend at Thunder Mountain Speedway is a “can’t miss” two-day affair. The ‘Lightning on the Mountain’ weekend will offer something for race fans of all types at the Center Lisle three-eighths-mile oval Saturday-Sunday May 28-29.
On Saturday (May 28), the "lightning-fast" Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints (ESS) 360 Sprint Cars will make their first of two 2016 appearances racing for $3,000 to win and $300 to take the green flag. ESS has become a fan-favorite at Thunder Mountain in appearances during the last two seasons. Curt Michael (2015) and Stewart Friesen (2014) are past ESS winners on the Mountain.
“I am looking forward to starting a new Memorial Day weekend tradition at Thunder Mountain to go along with our Sunday stop at Utica-Rome (N.Y.) Speedway,” ESS vice president Dean Reynolds said. “Our first two events at Thunder Mountain have been outstanding races. I want to thank Karl (Spoonhower), Brett (Deyo) and everyone involved at Thunder Mountain for their support of the Lucas Oil ESS teams with the awesome purse paying $3,000 to win and $300 to start.”
Joining their 360 brethren, the popular CRSA 305 Sprint Cars will be on hand. Like the ESS counterparts, CRSA will visit Thunder Mountain on two occasions this season.
Doug Borger’s XCel 600 Modifieds take part in a “tour race” offering $1,000 to the winner. For the benefit of traveling teams, XCel 600 Modifieds will compete both Saturday and Sunday.
Completing Saturday’s program will be Open Sportsman (in a qualifier for Sunday’s event), Crate 602 Sportsman, Rookie Sportsman, Street Stocks and FWD Four Cylinders.
The action continues on Sunday (May 29) as the Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series Fueled By VP storms the Mountain with a 50-lap big-block/small-block Modified event paying $5,000 to win, $1,000 for 10th and $400 just to take the green flag. The ‘Lightning on the Mountain’ offers points toward the STSS Halmar International North Region, the first of two stops in Center Lisle for the ’16 campaign.
Track regular Brian Malcolm of Lake Ariel, Pa., upset the invaders last year in the ‘Lightning on the Mountain’ STSS race, pocketing more than $5,000 for his efforts.
Sunday’s program is presented by two strong supporters of racing in the Southern Tier and northeastern Pennsylvania: Chuck Grimm of Waymart Building Center in Waymart, Pa. and “Rocky” Rosetti of Sharkey’s Fuels in South Canaan, Pa.
Joining the STSS Modifieds on Sunday is the first-year STSS Open Sportsman Series, plus the traveling Fight Night All-Star Street Stocks and XCel 600 Modifieds, in their second $1,000-to-win event of the weekend.
Complete times and general information for both days will be posted as the weekend draws near.
