One For The Record Books: Tuesday’s ‘Blast at the Beach’ At Georgetown Speedway Offers HUGE $29,070 Cash Payout For Short Track Super Series Modifieds; Eight Drivers Chase STSS South Region Title; Fan Giveaways, Activities Planned
GEORGETOWN, DE – The second edition of the ‘Blast at the Beach’ at Georgetown Speedway will be one to remember.
An intense championship battle, record-setting payout, fan activities, giveaways and more will set the tone for a true “big-race” atmosphere at the historic half-mile oval Tuesday, Sept. 1 (rain date: Sept. 2).
Eight drivers, representing four states, are a mere 58 points apart in search of the Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By Hi-Tek South Region title, worth $7,500. With increased championship points on the line offering 150 markers to the winner and 60 for last place, it truly is anybody’s championship!
The 35-lap ‘Blast at the Beach’ STSS Modified feature is the richest event to be held all season in the state of Delaware. $5,000-plus is reserved for the winner, with $1,000 for 10th-place and $500 just to take the green flag. The cash total, including lap money and bonuses, to be paid out on Tuesday is a massive $29,070 plus product awards, contingencies and certificates.
Also featured during the program are Crate 602 Sportsman paying $1,000 to the winner and a pair of features for the Delmarva Chargers and Trucks in the event co-promoted by driver and businessman Eric Kormann and Brett Deyo of BD Motorsports Media LLC.
For race fans, a number of giveaways and activities are planned.
Dover International Speedway has donated three pairs of tickets to the upcoming NASCAR Sprint Cup Series AAA 400 on Sunday, Oct. 4 which will be given away to fans during the night.
Cat Country 97.5, Delmarva’s leading country station, will be on-site broadcasting live from 4-6 p.m. at the speedway with games and prizes.
The first 500 paying fans through the front gate will receive a free custom ‘Blast at the Beach’ can koozie courtesy of Bob Hilbert Sportswear, Hurlock Auto & Speed Supply and the Short Track Super Series.
RC2U plans to bring its unique brand of remote-control car racing for kids of all ages in the grandstand area.
Other “fan fun” and giveaways will take place throughout the fast-paced program.
Sponsorship support for the ‘Blast at the Beach’ has been received from Hurlock Auto & Speed Supply of Hurlock, Md., Taylor & Messick of Harrington, Del., Shore Water Refining of Dagsboro, Del., and American Portable Mini-Storage of Millsboro, Del.
Gates open next Tuesday at 3 p.m. for both the grandstand and pit areas. The drivers’ meeting takes place at 5:45 p.m., with hot laps slated fo r 6:20 p.m. and racing at 7:15 p.m.
Adult admission is $22 for the grandstands. Seniors (ages 65 and over) and Students (ages 13-17) pay $18. Kids 9-12 are $10 and those 8 and under are FREE.
Pit admission is $35 with no license required. Kids 6-12 pay $10 and those under five years old are $2.
