Minersville, PA August 21, 2015 Only three races remain at Big Diamond Speedway for the 2015 season. The Modifieds are preparing for their final points event this coming week, where Billy Pauch Jr has a 24 point lead over Duane Howard. Either one can take the championship this coming week as long, and while Rick Laubach is 256 points out of first place, he is not mathematically out of the equation. If he would win the race and neither of the top 2 drivers could start the feature, he would be able to take home the championship, the same goes if either of the top 2 drivers were unable to start, then he could even move up to 2nd place. So track position will become a hot commodity this week as these drivers will be battling it out to see who will be the 2015 Lias Tire 358 Modified Champion. The USS Achey Sportsman, Savage 61 Roadrunners and Slifko Fabrications Street Stocks have 2 more points races left to determine their champions. The USS Achey Sportsman will take center stage this coming week for the Andy Fayash Memorial Feature event paying $1570 to win and $157 to take the green. This week the ladies will also take to the track in the Kim’s Kreations Powder Puff event for all divisions. Everyone is also asked to wear Pink in order to help turn the track in pink in honor of Breast Cancer awareness. Mike Glass’s pink number 2 Sportsman will be on display for fans to sign their in memory and in honor of messages prior to the races this coming Friday night.
The Lias Tire 358 Modified division were ready for action and Scott Albert and Shawn Fitzpatrick brought the field to the green flag for their 25 lap feature event on Savage 61 Chrysler Dodge Ram Jeep Night at Big Diamond Speedway. A caution on the first start attempt left many of the field going to the rear after being involved in the incident and left several cars such as Meme DeSantis, Paul Moyer, Kyle Follweiler and Kent Reinhart unable to continue. When the green flag flew after the caution, Fitzpatrick would take over the top spot and began to put distance between himself and Scott Albert and the third place car of Colt Harris. The caution would fly with one lap to go and reset the field for a one lap shootout between Fitpatrick Harris, Albert, Duane Howard, Rick Laubach and John Willman. The teams would battle it out and at the checkers, it would be Colt Harris picking up the win followed by Duane Howard, Shawn Fitzpatrick, Rick Laubach and Scott Albert. The heats were won by Scott Albert and Meme DeSantis. The GME Hard Charger for the feature event would be Duane Howard for going from 10th to 2nd for a gain of 8 spots.
The USS Achey Sportsman were back in action on Friday night and Todd Huffman and Glenn Rowan drew the front row to start the 20 lap Sportsman Feature event. Huffman would take the early lead, but then Mike Mammana would take over the top spot and pull away from the field. Behind him the battle heated up between Wayne Witmer, Doug Hendricks and Mike Glass and Tim Fitzpatrick. Witmer and Hendricks would battle side by side and allow the 4th and 5th place cars of Glass and Fitzpatrick to catch up. At the checkered flag it would be Mike Mammana followed by Wayne Witmer, Doug Hendricks, Tim Fitzpatrick and Mike Glass. The heats were won by Doug Hendricks and Daryl Dissinger. The GME Hard Charger award would go to Doug Hendricks for going from 10th place to 3rd for a gain of 7 positions. The Kim’s Kreations Hard Luck award would go to JR Fulper after he had issues during warm ups and was unable to race the rest of the evening.
The Savage 61 Roadrunners put on a great 20 lap feature race for the fans after Andy Fayash and Elvin Brennan brought the field to the green flag. Fayash and Brennan would battle side by side for some time as the pair fought hard for the top spot. A late race caution on lap 14 would bunch the pack back up and added to the battle for the lead, but Fayash would be able to hold off Brennan at the line for his third win of the season. Chris Holland would finish third followed by Devin Trexler and TJ Fitzpatrick. The heats were won by Elvin Brennan and Andy Fayash. The Pro Shine Auto Detailing Challenge race pitted the top 11 cars in points against each other for 1 lap should out races. First up was Kris Ney and he quickly sent Shon Elk back to the pit area after their dual. Ney then chose Devin Trexler, who was able to get the run on Ney for the win, sending Ney back to his pit area. Trexler challenged Terry Kramer Jr, and Kramer would be victorious and bring out Chris Natale, who would end up finishing second, giving Kramer the chance to challenge Chris Holland. Holland would cal out Jim Kost, Elvin Brennan, Andy Fayash III and Tim Fitpatrick Jr and be able to send them all back into the pit area. The final race put Holland against TJ Fitpatrick. The pair would battle it out in their one lap shoot out and it would be TJ Fitpatrick winning the final round of the event and going to Victory Lane. The Red White and Blue Autos Hard Luck award went to Joe Kavanaugh who was unable to start the feature.
The Slifko Fabrications Street Stock were back in action Friday evening and it was Jeremy Becker and Jim Somers Jr. who drew the front row starting positions. Becker would jump out into the lead and would begin to pull away but by lap 6, Rich Bossinger would take over the top spot. Bossinger would be able to hold off the challenges of Noah Jensen and Chris Derr to take home the win. Der would finish second followed by Jesen, Jeremy Becker and Matt Wilson . The heat was won by Rich Bossinger.
