BIGGEST EVENT OF THE SEASON AT THE BRIDGEPORT SPEEDWAY

Coming to the Bridgeport Speedway this Tuesday evening, August 18th is perhaps the area's biggest racing event of the season.  It's so BIG that it is called by several names!

It's the 10th Annual Friends of Mike Race - an event started by Bridgeport's Danny Serrano ten years ago when Mike Rogie, a friend and race fan, was battling cancer.  The race was intended to raise Rogie's spirits while giving back to the competitors who put on the show week in and week out.  Unfortunately, Rogie passed away the day of the event and never got to see the results of his friendslabors.  But Mike Rogie has never been forgotten and each season, he and all of those that we all know just like him, are honored with the Friends of Mike event.

This year, the Big Block Modifieds will compete in a fifty lap feature event.  Stewart Friesen, the 2014 Friends of Mike winner, will be on hand to defend his title as will the 2013 winner, Jimmy Blewett.  Neal ams,  who picked up his first ever Bridgeport Modified feature win just a few weeks ago will be looking for another win as will Craig VonDohren, Duane Howard, Sammy Piazza and Bridgeport's winningest driver, Jimmy Horton.  The Bridgeport regulars will have something to say about that outcome though as current point leader, Rick Laubach, 2013 Champion, Ryan Watt, Jamie Mills, Wade Hendrickson, Dominick Buffalino and the hottest driver in recent weeks, David Hunt will have their eye on the prize on Tuesday evening.

On this night, the Crate/Sportsman will compete in the 3rd Annual Bill Hill Memorial.  Bill Hill was the father of drivers, Jesse & Travis Hill who lost his battle to cancer at the end of 2012.  The Hill family has worked hard to keep Bill's memory alive in the sport that he loved dearly.  A veteran of the Viet Nam War, Bill Hill was a racer as was his father before him.  When Jesse and then Travis became of age, they followed the family tradition, thanks to their dad who was dedicated to seeing his sons compete.  The Hill family has always been an integral part of the Bridgeport Speedway.  The Crate/Sportsman drivers will compete in a 28 lap feature event - commemorating one of the numbers used by Bill Hill when he raced.

This night of racing is also Hand #4 of the 2015 Poker Series.  Duane Howard has a pair of Kings going into the fourth event but Craig VonDohren is sitting with a 7,8 and 10 for a possible straight.  Godown, Laubach and Watt each have an Ace for their wins with Laubach holding an Ace, King and seven after three races.

In Crate/Sportsman Poker Series Action, it's been all Brett Kressley to date as Kressley has three wins and three Aces to show for his efforts but drivers like Jim Britt, CJ Jones, Pat Wall and a host of others are looking forward to the challenge in race number four.

August 18th is also the second Race of Champions on Dirt event at the Bridgeport Speedway this season - the first was the season opener - a forty-four lapper won by Ryan Godown behind the wheel of the Hewlett #901.

And if all of this isn't enough, the Bridgeport Speedway will celebrate it's 1,000th Modified feature event as part of the festivities on Tuesday night.  Who will the 1,000th winner be?  Kenny Brightbill was the winner of the first ever Modified feature held on the 5/8 mile track and now history will be made as someone will win the 1000th Modified feature event.  Several drivers who have known success at the Bridgeport Speedway will be part of the night's festivities - like Jimmy Horton, Gary Gollub, Wayne and Paul Weaver, Newt Hartman, Brightbill as well as car owners Ken Brenn and Sal DeBruno and MORE!

Be a part of this great night of racing with the first green flag waving at 7:15pm.  (Wednesday, August 19th has been reserved as a rain date if needed.)
