Bridgeport’s RoC Doug Hoffman Memorial Rescheduled for Easter Sunday-April 5
--
Bridgeport, NJ (March 27, 2015) – Mother Nature, to put it simply, just will not cooperate with Bridgeport Speedway for the beginning of the 2015 racing season. With Wednesday's rain showers, Thursday's heavy storms, and Friday's damp, cold, and wet weather, Bridgeport was left with no other choice but to postpone the Doug Hoffman Memorial 2015 lid lifter yet once again. With weekly race tracks opening up next weekend and the following two Sundays already holding marquee modified events, it was all but impossible to find a non-conflicting date with surrounding area speedways just as it was in 2014. After talking with the Race of Champions Dirt Modified Tour's Andy Harpell the only date that remained was Sunday, April 5. The Speedway did in fact have April 5 as a second rain date printed on their schedules back in early January.
‘I swear this is Deja vu for us all over again. The weather was so great last week and looked promising heading into this week and then it completely took a turn for the worse, which literally made it impossible for us to get on the track the last two days and even on Saturday,' explained a disappointed track manager Danny Serrano. 'We went through this last year, and to be honest it turned out to be okay. That's why we put Easter on our schedules back in January, so that the fans and drivers were aware that this situation might arise again.'
Keith Hoffman, Bridgeport race director, would have loved to honor his brother Doug this weekend. 'I can't believe that we've been put in the same situation as last year. With so many of the other track's early season events falling victim to the weather, I guess it's only fitting Bridgeport's would too. We ran on Easter last year and had a pretty good turn out of fans and drivers. I hope we can do the same this year in a race that honors Doug.'
Bridgeport Speedway has once again adjusted the starting times to allow families to keep their Easter morning and afternoon traditions. The plan is to present a family orientated Easter celebration while providing a safe, fun, and exciting program. The Modifieds will stage behind the main grandstand during intermission before their main event, which allows all the fans to get an up close look at all the drivers and their cars. Two Moon Bounces will be present on Saturday for the kids along with the Bandit Bus Tour Rides through the pit area. An appearance by the Easter Bunny, and an Easter Egg Hunt for all of Bridgeport's young fans, as well as a sermonette for all that would like to attend will take place on Sunday, April 5. The Modifieds, who were originally scheduled to run a 60-lap feature will now run 44-lap main event. 'Our goal is to have a manageable show on this day, plus that number was very significant in my brother's racing career. Doug won a lot of races driving the 44 car at Flemington,' Hoffman added. The Spirit Auto Center RoC Modifieds are also slated to be the first feature of the night hoping to get the traveling teams home a little earlier.
An all-star studded field of modifieds was set to attend this weekend's Doug Hoffman Memorial. New York state hot shoes Stuart Friesen, Jeff Heotzler, Erik Rudolph, and Anthony Perrego were ready to leave the Garden State victorious. Pennsylvania stars Duane Howard, and Craig VonDohren were going to be representing the Keystone State. Meanwhile, 'Jammin' Jamie Mills and Jordan Watson were slated to tow north from their home state of Delaware. New Egypt Speedway standouts the 'Ringoes Rocket' Ryan Godown, 'Showtime' Jimmy Blewett, Neal 'The Wheel' Williams, and Sammy Piazza, were all looking forward to the first round of the 2014 Poker Series. Not to be outdone, Bridgeport Speedway was going to be well represented this weekend with the likes of last year's '60over Special' winner Ryan Watt, former track champions Rick Laubach and Wade Hendrickson along with Richie Pratt, Sam Martz, Jesse Hill, Tommy Beamer, Eric Kormann, Dom Buffalino, Ron Roberts, Howard O'Neal, Mike Barone, Bob Sarkisian, many others.
The Crate/Sportsman will compete in a $1,000 to win 20-lap feature, while the 'Stuart Stainless' Outlaw Stocks battle it out in their own $500 to win 20-lap affair. Pit gates will open at 1:30pm while Front gates will swing open at 3pm on Sunday, April 5th. Hot laps begin at 4:30pm with racing scheduled to start at 5:30pm. Adult admission is $25, students 13-15 are $10, and children 12 and under are FREE. Pit admission is $35 no license required.
Some of the details for next weekend's practice have been shuffled. Friday evening will now be the focus for the 5/8 mile competitors as they will practice from 6 to 9pm with gates opening at 4pm. Then on Saturday, the 1/4 mile drivers will get to shake their machines down from 12 to 3pm with gates opening at 10am. Should Friday's practice fall to weather, then both tracks would see action on Saturday from 12 to 5pm.
