Anticipation Runs High For Alpine Building Supply Short Track SuperNationals 7 At I-88 Speedway Oct. 10-11; Online Information Center Established For ‘Working Man’s Race’ Spectacular; Andy Bachetti & Danny Johnson Tied For Short Track Super Series Fueled By VP Point Lead
AFTON, NY – The highly anticipated Alpine Building Supply Short Track SuperNationals 7 presented by Olum’s at the Afton Fairgrounds is quickly approaching.
On Friday-Saturday Oct. 10-11, the ‘Working Man’s Race’ promoted by Brett Deyo of BD Motorsports Media LLC and I-88 Speedway managers Jamie Page and Ron Ford will command the attention of the Northeast dirt Modified racing community at the Afton, N.Y., oval.
The busy weekend of racing is headlined by the finale of the six-race Short Track Super Series Fueled By VP with a record payout posted for the 50-lap big-block/small-block Modified event. Some $33,202 will be paid out to Modified racers and this number does not include lap money, contingency awards, bonuses and other incentives.
Currently, more than $1,200 in lap money has been collected and bonuses are adding up, making the SuperNationals more lucrative for competitors each day!
For year-long followers of the Short Track Super Series Fueled By VP, the Short Track SuperNationals is the championship event. The $23,000-plus series point fund and other contingencies will be distributed once the checkered flies at I-88. To be eligible for the point fund or other awards, a driver must attend the I-88 finale.
Entering the finale, Andy Bachetti of Sheffield, Mass., and Danny Johnson of Rochester, N.Y., are tied for the championship lead with 350 points each.
Friday’s (Oct. 10) lineup includes the Open vs. Crate 602 Sportsman 35-lap event paying $1,500 to win and $125 to start (top-six Crate 602 bonuses of $300, $200, $100, $75, $50 and a free pass for Saturday), Street Stocks, Four Cylinder Cars and Empire Sport Trucks plus open practice for Saturday’s divisions and the Manmiller Electric Modified Dash.
The recently added Manmiller Electric Modified Dash pits the five fastest cars from Modified practice in a 10-lap Dash: the winner earns a redraw position in Saturday’s 50-lap event. All other participants receive $50 cash.
On Saturday (Oct. 11), Short Track Super Series Fueled By VP Modifieds race 50-laps paying $5,000-plus to win, $1,000 for 10th and $600 to start from the richest Short Track SuperNationals payout in history. Non-qualifiers in the Modified division will compete in a 17-lap B-Main paying $777 to the winner, $175 for 10th and $100 to take the green flag. Also on the Saturday docket are Crate 602 Sportsman ($1,000 to win, $100 to start), IMCA-Modifieds and Empire Lightning Sprints.
Post-race parties are planned for both nights following the completion of racing. DJ All-Day Entertainment will be on hand to play music both night and Dietz and Watson has donated food for attendees. The ‘party zone’ will be set up beneath the track’s covered grandstands.
