WEATHER FORCES POSTPONEMENT OF PORT POKER SERIES #3
'High Stakes At The Port' To Be Run on Sunday, July 6th
With a 90% chance of thunderstorms and some very severe throughout the East coast, Bridgeport Speedway has been left with no other options but to postpone Thursday's Hand #3 of the Poker Series. The entire racing program will be presented on Sunday, July 6th with all times being moved up one hour...pit gates opening at 3pm, grandstand gates 4pm., and racing getting underway at 6:30. For the first time in many many years a Fireworks display at dusk will still be part of the show. "We were looking so forward to starting everyone's holiday weekend at Bridgeport tonight, but with the predicted current forecast it isn't fair to our race teams and fans to try and fight Mother Nature," offered track owner Brian Ramey. "We ran into this same problem last year for our 4th of July program, so we decided to have a rain date in place back in January when we made our yearly schedule. So rather than starting off your holiday weekend with us at Bridgeport, we sure hope everyone will come out on Sunday to cap off your weekend with us. At this time Bridgeport Speedway would like to wish everyone a safe and Happy 4th of July," Ramey added.
The Spirit Dodge Big Block Modifieds, the 811 Dig Safely Crate/Sportsman and the Stewart Stainless Outlaw Stocks will all compete in qualifying events and extra distance features for the third hand of the Poker Series. Ryan Watt and Duane Howard hold aces from their wins in the two previous Poker Series events for the Big Block Modifieds. Expected invaders Craig VonDohren, Jamie Mills, Jimmy Blewett, Ryan Godown, Jeff Heotzler will look to take down Bridgeport Speedway top point men Jimmy Horton, Rick Laubach, Richie Pratt, and Wade Hendrickson Steve Davis and Mike Lyons each have an ace in their hand as the result of their wins in the Crate/Sportsman Poker Series events. Ron Frees has a pair of aces after winning both of the Pete Ellis 'Lucky Teter'/John Blewett Inc Outlaw Stock Poker Series races. The Delaware Super Trucks will be an added attraction on the 1/4 mile track as they were originally scheduled for Sunday's 1/4 mile show.
With today's cancellation, unfortunately he Poker Series #2 racing program, originally scheduled for Sunday on the quarter mile track, has been rescheduled for Sunday, August 10th featuring wingless 600 micro sprints, along with winged 270s, Slingshots, and 4 cylinders. Quarter mile action returns Friday night, July 11th with 600cc & 270cc Micro Sprints and 4 Cylinders and the Garden State Vintage Stock Car Club. Friday race time is 8pm.
Avery Racing is once again pairing with the Do It for Duo program to collect donations to help pets displaced by Hurricane Sandy throughout the Garden State. Jimmy Avery plans to have a new Avery #76 with a bright new paint job race ready for this Sunday's event. Fans are encouraged to bring a donation to the races - cat or dog food, canned or dry, cat litter as well as other pet products and cash donations will be accepted. Every fan who makes a donation will receive and entry for a Grand Prize drawing. There will also be Bike Giveaways, courtesy of Avery Racing. Help support this worthy cause!
And it's the Fourth of July weekend so there will be FIREWORKS! The Big Block Modifieds will implement a three wide parade lap, symbolic of the third hand of the Poker Series after they pre-stage behind the grandstands. This is always a fan favorite as they get up close and personal to these potent machines and the men who drive them prior to the start of the race. Live music and moon bounces for the kids will still be a part of Sunday's racing promotions at the Poker Series.
Big Block Modified driver, Sammy Piazza, Crate/Sportsman driver, Mike Lyons and recent Outlaw Stock winner, TJ Henry will be on hand to greet fans upon their arrival. These three drivers will sign autographs, pose for pictures and be on hand to answer questions when the gates open on Sunday.
Who will draw the Aces for their Poker hand this weekend? Come on out to the Bridgeport Speedway and see for yourself. There's nothing like the hot and heavy action that has been taking place at the Bridgeport Speedway!
