MISS MOTORSPORTS CASSI PINDER TO APPEAR AT FAN FEST - MANY OTHER EVENTS PLANNED FOR GEORGIE STEVENSON MEMORIAL
MINERSVILLE, PA - June 30th, 2014
Racing returns to Big Diamond Speedway this coming Friday, July 4th with one of the biggest events of the year, the 34th running of the Georgie Steveson Memorial. This years version will see the Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic DIRTcar Modifieds go 34 lap for $3,400 to win and $340 just to take the green flag. There will also be a cash dash for the Modifieds, sponsored by Marks Service Center in Pottsville, PA, that pays $300 to the winner. The cash dash is run in memory of Fran Purcell Sr. and Eddie Dee, two long time competitors at the track. Along with the Modifieds will be the USS Achey Sportsman and Roadrunners, each competing in a full slate of qualifying and 20 lap feature events. This event carries a rain date of July 11th, 2014.
Last years winner Meme Desantis will be looking to make it two in a row in this prestigious event, but as is the case each and every week at Big Diamond, the competition will make it very tough to repeat. Billy Pauch Jr., the 2011 winner of this race and winner three times this year at Big Diamond, will surely be one of the favorites, along with Jeff Strunk, Frank Cozze, Duane Howard and a host of others. Expect some invaders to show up and try to take home the cash, as American Racer tires will be legal in the Modified division for this event along with the Hoosier track tires. Drivers will draw for their heat starting positions provided there were there the week prior. The top finishers in each heat event will then be handicapped for the feature event.
This event is run annually in memory of Georgie Stevenson. Diagnosed with spinal cancer at age six, Stevenson was a young race fan who made quite an impact on many, many people before passing away much too soon following a six-year battle with the dreaded disease. Despite his own health issues, Stevenson helped raise money for ill children and adults and accomplished more in his 12 short years than most of us will in a lifetime. For information on Georgie Stevenson and the Georgie Stevenson Memorial Fund, visit www.georgiestevensonmemorial.webs.com.
Also included on this special day will be the first ever "Fan Fest" at Big Diamond Speedway. Held in the grandstand area of the track from 5:30 PM until 7:30 PM, "Fan Fest" will include complimentary hamburgers, hot dogs, and water to the fans while supplies last. There will be face painting and cotton candy for the kids, popular Roadrunner driver "TJ the DJ" will be providing music for your listening pleasure, and lots of prizes will be given away to the fans. Many drivers will have their cars on display and will be available for an autograph session.
Also confirmed for "Fan Fest" is an appearance by Ms. Motorsports 2014 Cassi Pinder. Cassi will be available for autographs beginning at 5:30 PM and will be available for most of the evening. She will have posters and other items for sale for fans interested in purchasing a souvenir. Cassi has been around motorsports her entire life and is truly an asset to the sport and a great representative of racing. Please stop by to say hello and chat with Cassi during her time at Big Diamond Speedway.
If you find yourself with a little extra cash during the evening, be sure to purchase a 50/50 ticket. The track will be donating all proceeds to the St Jude's Children's Hospital and will also match the 50-50 and make a 2nd donation to St. Jude's on behalf of the track and all of the fans. The more we raise, the more we match. Even if you don't normally buy a ticket, this would be a great night to do so in order to donate more to those in need.
Adult general admission for this event will be $22.00 for adults. Students ages 13 to 17, seniors, and active military will be $20.00 (all with valid ID). Kids 12 and under, as always, are free.
Come on out and spend your July 4th with "Fan Fest", free food, fun, and great racing at Big Diamond Speedway.
