IRCO DIRT TRACK HEROES CAR SHOW
PHILLIPSBURG MALL EVENT NEARS. . . . .
KEN BRENN SR NAMED GRAND MARSHAL FOR SEVENTH ANNUAL IRCO DIRT TRACK HEROES CAR SHOW MARCH 2 -8
The 7th Annual IRCO Dirt Track Heroes Car Show will return to the Phillipsburg Mall in Phillipsburg, NJ, opening on Sunday, March 2nd and continuing through Saturday, March 8th. Legendary National Midget Hall of Fame car owner Ken Brenn Sr has been named Grand Marshal for the week long affair in conjunction with the tribute the Flemington Speedway Racing Historical Society is planning for the racing Brenn Family on the final day of the show on March 8th. Ken Brenn Sr played a major part in the second edition of the Dirt Track Heroes Show in 2009 when he was re-united with the now deceased sprint car legend Ray Tilley. The reunion of the pair was the first time they chatted together since Tilley did a guest appearance in a Brenn owned Midget in 1966.
Brenn was the premier Midget car owner from 1954 until 1972 when he left the Midget ranks to provide race cars for his son Ken Brenn Jr, who went on to have an outstanding career of his own in the dirt and pavement Modified ranks. All told Brenn won five ARDC car owner Championships while in competition and served as the President of the ARDC for two terms. Brenn was inducted into the National Midget Hall of Fame in 2007. Brenn has been honored by many organizations for his work within the Midget ranks and his first class persona has made him a popular figure within the world of motorsports. The list of drivers who have driven for Brenn is like a who's who in the history of racing. Names like Len Duncan, Tommy Elliott, Charlie Miller, Mitch Smith, Johnny Coy, Charlie Ross, Bobby Adamson, Rodger Ward, Bert Brooks, Jan Opperman, Jiggs Peters, Jimmy Kirk, Larry Dickson and the above mentioned Ray Tilley were just a handful of the legendary stars who were fortunate to drive a Brenn owned race car.
The Phillipsburg Mall has proven to be a popular setting for this special event and will once again offer a broad variety of new and vintage race cars, racing memorabilia, collectibles and photos on display throughout the Mall for the duration of the show. The six previous shows have averaged 120 race cars from all divisions of racing filling the Mall space as the past, present and future of racing were highlighted in a week long show that celebrated the love each of us has found in attending races and meeting so many wonderful people associated with the sport.
The restored race cars represent racing's past or what many race fans refer to as the "Golden Era" of auto racing. Either way, the spirit of the event itself takes the great fan base of the event back to a time when they could hop into their family jitney and travel less than a half hour to witness the excitement of a night at the races. While some of the cars in attendance are original works, some of the race cars are replicars, re-created to look much like the racers the legendary drivers drove to glory at one of the many speedways that hosted racing events
Current day race cars are displayed by race teams to gain for themselves and their sponsors additional exposure and create an interest for mall walkers to visit a race track in their immediate area. The cars are displayed to also exhibit the new and changing technology associated with racing and with the many restored race cars on site, depicts the evolution of the many eras of racing ingenuity.
Entries are now accepted to display in the Dirt Track Heroes Show. More information is available by calling: 443-513-4456. Space is available for race cars from all divisions, vendors and race tracks as well.
For the seventh consecutive year, former Gasoline Alley show hosts Ed and Steve Pados will host the nightly events and interviews along with guest announcers. Long-time announcer Bobby Stull and former Lake Mocatek co-announcer Justin Beltrame have already signed on to play a major part in the show. Sunday, March 2nd will kick-off the festivities for the week long event at 1 PM.
The Dirt Track Heroes Car Show will again offer a great keepsake event souvenir program book and shirt. The Phillipsburg Mall is open Sunday 11 AM to 6 PM; Monday through Saturday from 10 AM to 9 PM.
