Bridgeport Speedway Announces New TSRS 305 Sprint Car Poker Series For 2014

 

Bridgeport, NJ – The drivers of the Hillborn Injection Tri-State Racesaver Sprint Series will have something extra to 'play' for this 2014 race season. The already popular 'Poker Series' that has been held at Bridgeport the past two seasons for two of their weekly divisions, will now see life in a third division. The TSRS Sprint Car Series visit Bridgeport this year for five 'stand alone' events, that will now carry even more importance than previously expected. Thanks to three key sponsors, the TSRS sprinters will be vying for a healthy minimum of $3,250 in prize money, while only having to compete in just five events.

 

The 2014 Bethman Auto Center/Champion Tire/Bruce's Speed Shop 305 Sprint Poker Series will consist of a five race schedule. The first race (The April-All-In) will take place on Saturday, April 19, while the next event will be held on Saturday, May 17 and will be known as “The Spring Stand Off.” The “Jersey Jackpot” will make up round three on Saturday, June 18, as round four, “The Hot Hand”, will come to town on Saturday, August 9. The last hand, “No-Limit November”, will fall on “Wild Card Weekend” on Friday, November 15. 

 

The Sprint Car Poker Series will follow the same guidelines as all of the other Poker Series at Bridgeport. The winner of each race will receive an 'Ace', while the second place finisher takes home a “King,” and so on, all the way down to the thirteenth place driver who will earn a “2”. The driver who attends all five races with the best hand will be crowned the champion in November. Second place, third place, as well as the driver with the 'worst' five cards will also reap the benefits of this year's Poker Series. The four drivers earning the extra cash and awards will be honored at this year's 2014 Bridgeport Banquet in December. 

 

Lin Bethman & Sons Auto Center was the first to sign up for the inaugural series by pledging $1,500 to this year's Sprint Car Poker Series Champion. “Jeff Bethman took a liking to the Poker Series that we run for our Big Blocks Modifieds and Crate/Sportsman. You add his love for sprint car racing and it made it easy for him to want to support this deal,” explained Bridgeport track manager Danny Serrano.

Bruce Kindberg, of Bruce's Speed Shop has been eagerly awaiting to involve himself with sprint car sponsorship at Bridgeport Speedway, so this year's Poker Series opportunity was a perfect fit for this sprint car fanatic. Bruce has put up $750 to the second highest finishing hand at the conclusion of the five races. “Bruce Kindberg loves sprint car racing and has supported TSRS from the start and we are extremely happy that he's giving back to the racers here at Bridgeport,” offered Serrano.

Last but certainly not least, Champion Tire has signed on to complete the 2014 TSRS 305 Sprint-Poker Series. “We're proud that Darin and Cindy Elliott of Champion Tire wanted to be a part of this series. They have been long-time supporters of short track dirt racing in NJ,” Serrano added. Champion Tire will be offering $500 to both the third highest 'poker hand' as well as the 'worst hand' after the fifth and final race in November.

“Once wind got out that we(Bridgeport) were trying to do something with the 305s, we received full support from Joe Grandinetti(TSRS President) and his drivers,” said Serrano. Some of the drivers who have already committed to running this year's Bethman Auto Center/Champion Tire/Bruce's Speed Shop Poker Series include two-time defending TSRS champion Mike Haggenbottom. Former Big Block Modified driver Tim Tanner Jr. is excited about this year's Poker Series and will certainly be a driver to watch this season as he seeks his first TSRS sprint car victory. Racing sisters Stefanie and Erika Palmai, Eddie Wagner, Tommy Carberry Jr., Jon Haegele and Mario Page have all reached out to announce that they will run the five-race series.
