MIKE BARONE IS PREPPING FOR 2014
Sicklerville, NJ (December 6, 2013) – Entering the August 10, 2013 point show at Bridgeport Speedway, Mike Barone was sitting in sixth place in the Big Block Modified standings. An unfortunate mechanical breakdown on this summer night ended Barone’s chase towards a track championship as his lone engine suffered a season ending malfunction. With the 2013 season in the past, the 24-year old speedster is prepping for 2014.
Influenced by his dad’s involvement in racing snowmobiles, Barone became interested and involved in the sport at an early age. “Ever since I can remember I’ve been fascinated with the idea of pushing myself to the limit with speed,” said the resident of Hillsborough, NJ. Starting at the age of nine, Barone began to compete in motocross events. Early on in his teenage years, Barone learned the ropes of Modified Stock Cars by helping his older brother Don with the maintenance of his Sportsman and Modified cars in the mid-2000s. In 2006, the younger Barone began to compete in the Crate Sportsman class at Bridgeport Speedway and quickly became a force on the track. In 2007, he picked up the first of his four career feature wins in the division at the South Jersey dirt oval. The following year, Barone finished third in the Crate Sportsman championship standings at Bridgeport Speedway. In 2009, he elevated to the Big Block Modified ranks and won Bridgeport Speedway’s Rookie of the Year award. After spending the 2010 and 2011 seasons at New Egypt Speedway, Barone returned to Bridgeport Speedway in 2012 and he quickly entered the winner’s circle. “Winning the Big Block Modified feature on April 14, 2012 is my proudest racing moment to date,” stated Barone. The victory set the stage for a steady performance in 2012 and a sixth place finish in the points chase.
After sitting out the final weeks of the 2013 season, Barone is setting high goals for the coming year. “I plan on coming back to Bridgeport Speedway in 2014 and want to compete on a full-time basis. In addition, I would like to run at New Egypt and Georgetown Speedways,” said the respected Big Block Modified driver.
For the 2014 season, an assortment of marketing packages including primary and several secondary sponsorships are available for Barone racing. For additional information on these opportunities, interested parties should contact Mike Wisniewski at mikewiz1962@yahoo.com.
