Stewart Friesen’s 2013 Season A Demonstration Of Versatility & Success:  30-Year-Old Driver Won 25 Percent Of 107 Races Entered; Earned Two Modified Track Championships; Established 360 Sprint Car Prowess; Promoted First Event Continuing Family Heritage

SPRAKERS, NY – Demonstrating versatility and continued success, Stewart Friesen completed another outstanding season of dirt-track competition in 2013.

Friesen - a 30-year-old full-time professional race car driver who hails from Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ont., but resides in Sprakers N.Y. – competed in 107 events during the recently completed ’13 campaign. On 27 occasions – approximately 25 percent of the time – he ended up in Victory Lane.

Friesen earned 22 of his 27 wins in big- and small-block Modified competition. Entering the realm of Sprint Car racing more aggressively, he annexed four checkered flags in 360 Sprint Car action and posted a single win aboard a USAC Midget.

Driving for Tom Cullen, Friesen won the Utica-Rome (N.Y.) Speedway Modified championship for the sixth time in his career and for the fourth consecutive season. Friesen netted six feature wins at his Sunday night home operated by Gene Cole, in the process securing his place as the all-time leading winner at the facility (44 wins, surpassing the 42 checkered flags achieved by Dale Planck, second on the list).

At Fonda (N.Y.) Speedway – where Friesen drove the Tadd Parks-fielded No. 1 small-block on Saturday nights – he recorded his second championship in as many seasons racing regularly at the ‘Track of Champions’ fabled half-mile oval. Friesen won on 10 occasions at Fonda, including the year-end 100-lap finale.

Other Modified highlights for Friesen included book-end victories on the Super DIRTcar Series, winning the opener at Rolling Wheels (N.Y.) Raceway and season-finale at the Charlotte (N.C.) Dirt Track; earning the pole for the big-block Modified 200 at Super DIRT Week on the New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse, N.Y.; topping the 100-lap Small-Block Modified Championship at Orange County (N.Y.) Fair Speedway during Eastern States Weekend; taking a checkered during the DIRTcar Nationals at Volusia (Fla.) Speedway Park;  and recording Race of Champions triumphs at both Utica-Rome and Five Mile Point (N.Y.).

Friesen led the touring RoC Dirt standings entering the season finale in October. However, the point season finale was postponed until spring 2014 by weather.

In Sprint Car action driving the Doug Emery No. 33, Friesen’s highlight was a $7,000 victory in the inaugural ‘Cole Cup’ 360 Sprint Car Open at Utica-Rome Speedway in September. The event attracted more than 50 of the top Sprint Car drivers in the Northeast and Canada to compete.

Racing with the respected Empire Super Sprints (ESS), Friesen won sanctioned 360 Sprint Car mains at Brewerton (N.Y.), Albany-Saratoga (N.Y.) and I-88 (N.Y.) speedways.

On the high banks of Fulton (N.Y.) Speedway, Friesen translated his first career 410 Sprint Car start against the traveling All-Star Circuit of Champions into a close second- place finish, behind veteran Lance Dewease.

Friesen also made his debut as an event promoter in ’13, serving presenting the Super DIRTcar Series ‘Dirty Jersey 60’ in June at N.J.’s New Egypt Speedway with partner Brett Deyo.  The event – which attracted an all-star 46-car Modified field representing Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York and Canada - returns to the Super DIRTcar Series slate on June 17, 2014 for its second running.

Plans for the ’14 season include a focus on Modified racing with additional Sprint Car events. To learn more about Stewart Friesen, visit www.stewartfriesen.com or “like” Stewart Friesen on Facebook.
