SSP Big Track Race Results (9-22-13) Gallagher Claims 50-Lap Susquehanna Showdown at SSP on Sunday Night

Gallagher Claims 50-Lap Susquehanna Showdown at SSP on Sunday Night
Next Test & Tune at SSP on Wednesday, October 2
Newberrytown, PA (September 22, 2012) – Sam Gallagher won the 50-lap Late Model feature event presented by Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic at the Susquehanna Speedway Park on Sunday night.  This brought Gene Kanub’s three-year reign of the event to an end.  Logan Wagner of Harrisonville won the 25-lap PA Sprint Series Interregional feature.  The event was postponed to Sunday due to rain.
On the initial start of the Late Model 50 lapper, polesitter Justin Ehrhart, spun in front of the field in turn 4.  All cars evaded Ehrhart’s stalled car without harm.  On the next start, outside polesitter, Chase Billet jumped out to the early lead with a pack of four cars battling for the runner-up spot that included Sam Gallagher, Grant Adams, Andy Fries and Gene Knaub.  As Billet set the pace and entered lap traffic, a mechanical issue slowed the leader for a caution flag on lap 20.  Sam Gallagher inherited the top spot as Billet made a quick repair and returned to the rear of the field.  Through the middle stages of the race, Gallagher led with Grant Adams and Gene Knaub battling for the spot behind the leader.  A red flag on lap 35 was displayed as Tim Murphy slowly rolled his car on its roof on the frontstretch when a few cars spun coming out of turn four.  All drivers escaped injury.  The race restarted with Gallagher continuing to lead the field.  A caution on the final circuit for a spinning Jimmy Jesmer in turn one made it a one lap shoot-out for the race.   Gallagher never looked back and took the $2,000 victory over Grant Adams.  Andy Fries made a last lap pass to take third spot with Chase Billet returning from the rear midway through the race to finish fourth.  Knuab slowed at the end and settled for fifth.  Mike Walls was awarded the JR’s Paving Hard Charger award by finishing 10th after starting 18th.  Gen Knaub collected $200 for setting the fast time and a bonus of $100 for breaking the one-lap 0track record with a time of 18.270 second.  Chris Knopp, Jake Jones and Chad Julius won the heat races with Devin Frey claiming the consolation race.
In the PA Sprint Series 25-lap Interregional race, Andrew Hake started on the pole and led the field to lap one with Ryan Stillwagon in tow.  Stillwagon pressured Hake until lap 8 when Stillwagon was able to scoot by Hake.  Hake did not drop back and was able to regain the top spot five laps later on the 12th circuit.  Meanwhile, 9th place starter Logan Wagner made his way up to third.  Matt Mountz made it a four car battle one lap later.  Wagner took the runner-up spot on lap 15 behind Hake.  On lap 18, Wagner took the lead in turn 1 & 2 on lap 18 and never looked back as he made his way through heavy lapped traffic.  Wagner took his fifth checkered of the season with Stillwagon settling on second.  Matt Mountz finished strong in third with Andrew Hake in fourth.  Adam Carberry came from a 20th starting spot to round out the top five.  Heat race wins went to the Colby Dice and brothers Logan and Mike Wagner.  Roger Irvine won the consolation race.
The Susquehanna Speedway Park is located off I-83 to exit 32, then 1.4 miles NW on SR382 to York Road, then 1.3 miles south.  For more information, contact the speedway offices at (717) 292-1696 or visit online at sspracing.net.  On raceday, use the track phone at (717) 938-9170 for up-to-date information at the “Big Track.”
