Knaub Outduels Christine Jr. at SSP on Saturday Night

Newberrytown, PA (September 7, 2013) – Dover’s Gene Knaub stopped Randy Christine Jr. three race win streak at the Susquehanna Speedway Park on Saturday night, September 7 by winning the 25-lap Late Model feature. Chambersburg’s Doug Bennett won his second race in a row in the 20-lap Street Stock feature race. Travis Horan of Manchester claimed his third Xtreme Stock victory of the 2013 season. York Haven’s Daryl Sipe won his 8th Road Warrior feature of the season. Auburn’s Aaron Brommer led from start-to-finish winning the PENNMAR Vintage Car 12-lap feature. Mountville’s Donny Groff claimed his sixth Mini Van feature of the season. Reading’s Vince Gagliaro took the win in the 10 lap Blast From the Past Vintage Cars. John Drummer of Brooklyn, Maryland won the Figure 8 race.
In Late Model action, Matt Murphy grabbed the early lead for the first six circuits until Billy Wampler took over the top spot on lap seven. With a wild scramble behind him for the runner-up spot, Randy Christine Jr. took command of the runner-up spot and took the top spot from Wampler on lap 12. Meanwhile, Gene Knaub made his way from 8th to challenge Wampler. After passing Wampler, Knaub set his sights on Christine Jr. From lap 17 to 21, the pair ran side-by-side, swapping the lead on each lap. On lap 21, Christine slid high in the turn, giving Knaub the advantage he needed to take full command of the lead. Knaub continued on to win his fourth SSP feature win of the season, followed by Christine Jr. in second. Wampler settled for third, with Justin Ehrhart and Murphy rounding out the top five. Carl Leach was the JR’s Paving Hard Charger coming from 20th to finish 11th. Heat race wins went to Cam Zeigler, Chris Knopp and Wampler.
The 20-lap Street Stock feature had Michelle Walls leading lap one with Doug Bennett taking the lead on lap two. Randy Zechman trailed Bennett for the remainder of the race, but could not make the pass for the lead. Bennett took the win over Zechman and Scott Thunberg in third. Jasen Geesaman and Chris Derr finished fourth and fifth respectively. Gary Potts and Dustin Hollinger were the heat race winners.
In the 20-lap Xtreme Stock Car, Travis Horan took the early lead and never looked back, holding off heavy pressure from a multitude of drivers. At the end, Horan picked up the feature win over Donnie Broderick and Chad Stine. Coming across the line in fourth was Rich Lomman, followed by Cameron Benyou. Benyou also was the Madison House Recovery Home Hard Charger after picking up six spots from his 11th place starting spot. Horan and Stine won their heat races earlier in the night.
Road Warrior action saw Cory Phillips taking the lead at the start of the 15 lapper. Ricky Weaver took the lead on lap 3 and led until a caution bunched up the field on lap 9. On the restart, Daryl Sipe challenged and finally made the winning pass on lap 11 and never looked back. Weaver finished second followed by Curt McDade. Travis Brown and Thomas Thompson rounded out the top five.
The 10-lap Mini Van feature event saw Donny Groft leading from start-to-finish to take victory over Zachari Kitner. Jeremy Haines finished third followed by Joey Sterner in fourth. Kitner won the heat race.
Aaron Brommer took the win of the 12-lap PENNMAR Vintage Car feature over Vince Gagliardo. Scott Rickrode finished third, followed by Paul Bacchus and Rick Pastor. Bacchus won the heat race earlier in the night.
Vince Gagliardo wired the field to win the 10-lap Blast From the Past Vintage Car feature. Brian Fucilli finished second followed by Kevin Kuser. Cory Phillips and Jack Reifsnyder finished fourth and fifth respectively. Gagliardo also won the heat race.
In Figure 8 Racing, John Drummer took the victory over highly contested battle with Dennis Dorosz who settled for second. Thomas Thompson finished third with Roy Denike and Kelly Seal finishing fourth and fifth respectively.
Brian Rehbein won the small car demolition derby that capped off the night.
On Saturday night, September 14, racing action returns to the Big Track at SSP with Track Championship Night. Racing action will include the Late Models Street Stocks, Xtreme Stocks Cars, Road Warriors, Mini Vans and PA Sprint Series. Track champions will be crowned in the Late Models, Street Stocks, Xtreme Stocks, Road Warriors, Mini Vans and PA Sprint Series divisions. There will also be a special championship awards presentation for the drivers of the Summer Shoot-Out Series at the Outback Track.
On Saturday, the pit gates will open at 3:30 p.m. Grandstand gates will open at 4:00 p.m. Warm-ups begin at 5:30 p.m. with qualifying races at 6:00 p.m. followed by consolation races and feature events.
General Admission Grandstand ticket prices for Sunday night are Adults (ages 18-59) $14.00; Young Adults (ages 11-17) & Senior Adults (60 & Older) $12.00; Children (10 & under) are free. Pit pass prices are $25.00 with a reduced price of $22.00 for all pit competitor license holders. The minimum age requirement to purchase a pit pass is 12 years of age with a copy of a birth certificate is required for all ages 12 to 14.
The next Wednesday Night Test & Tune for any type of racecar will be on Wednesday, September 18. The gates will open at 5:00 p.m. with practice sessions rotating for each class from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The cost is $12.00 per person for pit passes and a $20.00 fee for each racecar entering the pit area ($32.00 per car & driver combination). Each session will be 4-6 laps per session depending on car count. The grandstands are open free to the public. Each class will receive 4 to 5 rounds of 4/6 laps each or more if time permits. The fuel pumps from Miller’s Racing Parts will not be open. Anyone needing fuel should contact Miller’s Racing Parts directly at 717-766-0181. The main concession stand will be open throughout the night.
Also on Wednesday night, there will an open practice session for quarter midgets, karts and Adult Speedcars at the Outback Track. The gates will open at 5:30 p.m. with open practice from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The cost will be $20.00 per driver with no charge for anyone else entering the grandstand and “cold pit” areas. All Outback Track participants should enter the pits from the Kise Mill Road entrance behind turn 2 of the “Big Track.”

The winner will receive either $100.00, $50.00 or $25.00 (based on a draw in victory lane) compliments of JR's Paving (Dover) and be eligible for post-season awards for accumulating the most Hard Charger Awards during the season. To be eligible for the Hard Charger Award per race, the driver must be on the lead lap and finish the race. If two drivers improve the same amount of positions, the tiebreaker will be the driver starting closer to the pole position being awarded the Hard Charger of the race.
