HEAVY RAIN FORCES CANCELLATION OF RACING AT BIG DIAMOND
SPEEDWAY
MINERSVILLE, PA - MAY 11th, 2013
Heavy rains moved into
the area about 30 minutes before the scheduled starting time, forcing owners
Jake and Jasmine Smulley to cancel the racing events planned at Big Diamond
Speedway on Friday, May 10th.
A nice field of 73 cars had signed into the
pit area for the four division show of 358 Modifieds, Roadrunners, Street
Stocks, and Legend cars. Due to this being the 2nd consecutive rainout for the
Street Stocks, and with only eight shows planned for the 2013 season, they have
been added to the racing card next Friday evening, May 17th. Pit wristbands for
the Street Stock division from last evening must be used at the May 17th
show.
The next appearance for the Legend cars is on Friday, June 28th,
and pit wristbands from last evening for the Legaend cars must be used on that
date.
Grandstand wristbands from last evening carry a $15.00 face value
and are good for the next two racing events. All pit wristbands from last
evening that were not for Street Stocks or Legend cars are also good for the
next two racing events.
Racing returns to Big Diamond Speedway next
Friday, May 17th with the ZY Pyrotechnics 358 Modifieds, USS Achey Sportsman,
Savage 61 Roadrunners, and the just added Anthracite Coal Delivery Street Stock
event. The Modifieds will be running 25 laps in their feature event with $2,750
going to the winner. The Sportsman, Roadrunners, and Street Stocks will all be
competing in 20 lap feature events.
The following Friday, May 24th, it is
the third of five races for the 358 Modifieds going 30 laps for $3,000 to win
and $300 to take the green. Defending point champion Craig Von Dohren looks to
go three for three in these extra distance, extra money events, having won the
first two that have been run. The Modifieds will once again be joined by the
Sportsman, Roadrunners, and Street Stocks, each competing in 20 lap feature
events.
Looking ahead, on Friday June 7th it's the "Crazy 8's" for the
Roadrunner division. Four eight lap features for the fan favorite Roadrunner
division. Each feature event will be full points paying events. The point
standings should look very different once the racing is done on this evening.
The Roadrunners will be joined by the 358 Modifieds and Sportsman.
On
Friday, July 5th it's the 33rd annual Georgie Stevenson Memorial paying $3,300
to the winner and $330 to take the green. Also on the card that evening will be
the Sportsman, Roadrunners, and 600cc Modifieds.
Don't forget, this
coming Thursday, May 16th, racing returns to Little Diamond Speedway. Gates
open at 6:00 PM and racing begins at 7:00 PM. The 270cc Micro Sprints and
Slingshots will be the racing card. With only eight more events scheduled for
Little Diamond this season, don't miss out on your chance to check out this
exciting new speedway.
Pit participation fee for Little Diamond will be
$20 per person, with no age limits on who can enter the pit area. Pit
membership is free, with no license required. Car registration is $20 per
car/per division. Grandstand admission will be $8.00 per person for everyone
ages 13 and up. Children 12 years of age and under are admitted free if
accompanied by a paying adult.
