Steve Buckwalter Opens 2013 ARDC Season With a Win

"The Royersford Rocket", Steve Buckwalter, lived up to his name as he powered back from the rear of the field after a lap five caution to win the 2013 ARDC Opener at the New Egypt Speedway. It was Buckwalter's fifth win at the New Jersey speedplant.

Bruce Buckwalter, Jr. set the pace for the race from the drop of the green flag. B. Buckwalter, Jr. outgunned Brian Gilmore to take the lead. An early caution involved several of the top guns in the field as Shawn Jackson, Alex Bright, Trevor Kobylarz, Nick Wean and eventual winner Buckwalter, were all collected in a turn one incident. All cars were able to restart at the rear of the field.

Laps four and five were riddled with on track incidents. B. Buckwalter, Jr. held off the advances of Brian Gilmore on several occasions and started to put some distance between himself and the field after lap six. Ryan Greth, Steven Drevicki and Jimmy Glenn battled for top five spots as Steve Buckwalter raced his way back to the top ten.

Steve Buckwalter made his way through the top five and had moved into second by the half way mark, with Bruce Buckwalter, Jr now on his radar. The two cousins put on a show for the lead but the advantage went to Steve Buckwalter on lap thirteen.

The race was now on for third as Bright made his way back to the top five, moving into fourth ahead of Drevicki and then setting his sights on Greth for third.

Steve Buckwalter pulled away from the field as he drove to take the opening day checkered. Bruce Buckwalter, Jr. finished second with breathing room over the battle for third. Bright grabbed the final podium spot from Greth as the field raced to the finish line. Drevicki crossed the line in fifth.

ARDC action resumes this Friday, April 26th at the Williams Grove Speedway.
