KENDERDINE AND SCHOFFSTALL SCORE FIRST EVER LITTLE DIAMOND
VICTORIES
MINERSVILLE, PA - APRIL 28th, 2013
Back in 1972, Fritz
Roehrig began a new era in auto racing with the opening of Big Diamond
Speedway. Over 40 years later, on the same grounds where the Big Diamond
Speedway got its start, new owners Jake and Jasmine Smulley began yet another
new era in auto racing with the opening of Little Diamond Speedway.
In
the 270cc Micro Sprint event, Ed Kenderdine put his name in the record books as
the first ever winner on Little Diamond Speedway, jumping into the lead from his
pole starting position and never looking back. It wasn't easy though, as both
Mike Rutherford and Ross Perchak took a stab at taking over the top spot during
the non-stop event. Kenderdine was able to ward off all challengers though, and
parked his car in victory lane at the end of the 20 lap event. Perchak was able
to hold on for 2nd, followed by Rutherford, Kevin Berger, and Greg
Robinson.
In the accompanying 25 lap Slingshot event, Alex Schoffstall
used the same strategy as Kenderdine, leaping from his pole starting position
and leading the entire 25 laps. Racing behind Schoffstall was tight, with Mark
Sensenig, Lauden Reimert, Kurt Bettler, and Tyler Ulrich all racing very closely
for the 3rd thru 6th spots throughout the event. At the checkered it was
Schoffstall with a commanding win in the MA Silver Regional Slingshot tour race,
followed by Larry Raifsneder, Sensenig, Reimert, and Bettler.
The entire
show took only a little over an hour to complete, and all teams were headed home
before 8:30 PM. Only one caution event slowed the evenings
activities.
The 125cc Micro Sprint scheduled on the racing card was
cancelled, as only one car showed up to compete. After the races, management
has decided to eliminate the 125cc Micro Sprints from the racing card for the
remainder of the season.
Racing on Little Diamond Speed way continues
this Thursday, May 2nd, with a full card of 270cc Micro Sprint and Slingshot
racing. We then take a week off before returning to action on Thursday, May
16th.
Gates open at 6 PM for Little Diamond, with warm-ups at 6:45 PM and
the first heat scheduled for 7 PM. Grandstand admission for Little Diamond is
only $8.00, with kids 12 and under admitted free of charge. Pit participation
fee is $20.00, car registration fee is $20.00 per car per division. Pit license
for Little Diamond is free.
