STRUNK, BEACH JR. FIND VICTORY LANE. KILLIAN 2 FOR 2 IN ROADRUNNERS

MINERSVILLE, PA - March 31st, 2013

New ride. Same result.

In only his second start in Vinnie Salerno’s number 4* car, Jeff Strunk managed to find victory lane Friday night at Big Diamond Speedway. Strunk earned $2,750 for his victory in the 25 lap main event.

Strunk, who started seventh, moved into second place by lap four and inherited the lead two laps later when Dan Hineline expired his second motor in as many weeks. From there, the seven time Big Diamond Speedway champion cruised to his 45th career victory at the Minersville, PA oval.
`
The most spirited battle on the track was for second place between Frank Cozze and Craig Von Dohren; opening day winner and defending track champion. Over the last 17 laps of the feature event these two drivers were never more than a car length apart. Cozze ultimately ended up claiming second spot at the finish, a bright spot in what otherwise has been a tough start to the season. Von Dohren was able to claim third and hold on to his early season point lead, followed by Doug Manmiller in forth and Mike Mamanna in fifth, making his first start of the season. Heat races were won by Meme Desantis, Cozze, and Strunk.

Kevin Beach Jr. was the winner of the Sportsman feature, which was shortened to 16 laps due to time constraints. Beach, who started fifth on the starting grid, took the lead after one lap and never looked back. Second place went to Billy Moyer Jr. of Pine Grove, followed by current point leader Mike Glass, defending point champion Doug Hendricks, and Paul Kline. Kline was making his first start at Big Diamond since the 2011 racing season. Heat race victories went to Kline, Moyer, and Beach.

The 20 lap Roadrunner feature was claimed by young hot shoe Kyle Killian. The “Haven Hatchet” started eighth in the event and took over the lead from Jim Kost on lap five. Dating back to last year’s Coalcracker 25 race, young Killian has won three features in a row. He was followed by Chris Holland, who picked up his second top three finish of the season, Jim Kost, Terry Kramer Jr., and Jeremy Becker. Heat races were won by Holland and Killian.

The nightcap event was a 20 lap feature for the Street Stocks, making their first appearance at the track since 1997. Mike Kiehl grabbed the win for the 13 car field, followed by Mike Walls, Scott Thunberg, Brain Walls, and Jeremy Becker. Kiehl was also the heat race victor. Next event for the Street Stocks will be on Friday, April 19th.

Don’t forget, this Friday, April 5th, Money in the Mountains 40 lap big block/small block challenge race paying $7,500 to win and $500 to take the green. A large and diverse field is expected for this event. Please visit www.bigdiamondspeedway.net for more details.
