VONDOHREN AND UMBENHAUER GO FOR THIRD WINS AT GRANDVIEW, DUANE HOWARD LOOKS
TO ADD AN IMPRESSIVE WIN TO HIS RESUME
BECHTELSVILLE, PA April 25, 2013 .. . When NASCAR stock car racing action
returns to Grandview Speedway on Saturday (April 27th) 7 p.m. Craig VonDohren
and Jared Umbenhauer will be looking for their third wins of the
season.
That same night defending NASCAR Whelen All American Series 358 Modified champion Duane Howard possibly will be looking to add his 200th victory to his impressive resume. Howard’s first feature race win came on October 8, 1983 in a Late Model race at Grandview in a car that he shared ownership with Alan Finch, his current crew chief. His last victory came at Selinsgrove, PA Speedway in a 358 Modified owned by Chad Sinon. However Howard will be racing on Friday night so it is possible the 200th win will come there.
On Saturday night VonDohren, a six time track champion, who was shut out of the NASCAR 358 Modified victory lane in 2012 will go after his third win of the season at the Berks County clay oval. And Jared Umbenhauer, the defending Sportsman champion, will be seeking his third feature race win of the season as he defends his title.
Last Saturday night Howard had engine problems force him to take a provisional start in the Ron Seltman owned No.R19 entry. He was able to secure some valuable points as he goes after another championship.
Howard does not talk much about his impressive 199 career wins but race fan Bill Braga has kept a close record of Howard’s wins and can tell where each win took place, on what date, and the car owner on the particular night. Over the years Howard has won races in cars owned by him and Finch, Buddy Biever, Craig Hirthler, Cary Duncan, Glen Hyneman, Mavericks MC, Norm Hansell, the Petruska #4 and Chad Sinon. Most of the wins have come with Sinon as the team has been together since 2006.
Few racers can claim 200 feature victories during their career and fans could be part of this history making event if Howard is able to come back from a tough Saturday night to take his 200th victory provided he has not reached that mark elsewhere on Friday.
The NASCAR 358 Modifieds, Late Models and Sportsman will be part of a tripleheader show that will feature at least 14 events of racing topped by a 30-lapper for the Modifieds and 25-lappers for the Late Models and Sportsman.
Spectator gates open at 5 p.m. with racing scheduled to start at 7 p.m. Pits open at 4 p.m. Adult admission is $15 while youngsters 12 and under are admitted free. Anyone entering the pit area will be required to have a NASCAR license. Pit admission is $30.
A meet and greet featuring three Grandview racers and their race cars is set for 5 p.m. at the main entrance to the speedway.
Grandview Speedway is located at 43 Passmore Road, just off Route 100, in Bechtelsville, PA, 10 miles north of Pottstown. For information telephone 610.754.7688 or check in at www.grandviewspeedway.com.
