Additional Sponsors Increase Dream's Purse; "Green Gamble" Could Be Worth Extra $500 To 600cc Winner
It's the event that is "promoted by the racer, for the racer." And the racer turned promoter continues to provide the teams that support him with the prize they most want...cold, hard cash.
Nunzi Allegrucci, in cooperation with Greenwood Valley Action Track promoters Gerry and Cindy Creveling, will present the third event of his promotional career, and second Dream at the Green for the 270cc and 600cc Micro-Sprints. The event takes place on Saturday, April 6 and Sunday, April 7, with Saturday's action starting at 4 p.m. and Sunday's grand finale` beginning at 7 p.m.
With less than two weeks remaining until the second annual Dream goes green, Allegrucci is still signing up sponsors and increasing the payout that will await drivers in both divisions.
Thanks to SDR Components, a manufacturer of bird cages, radius rods, and other racecar components, Nunzi is now able to bump up the purse from the 12th finishing position on back, and he's now paying $125 to take the green in each A-Main (up from the previously announced $100).
An anonymous donor has also contributed to the overall increase in the Dream's purse. That same anonymous donor also pitched another idea to the event's organizer...
During a press conference held at Bloomsburg's Quaker Steak & Lube on Sunday, March 24, Allegrucci announced that he's initiating the "Green Gamble" at this year's Dream.
The Green Gamble is just for 600cc drivers and teams. If a driver/team decides to pay an extra $25 Gambler's Fee, then he/she goes on to win the race, he/she will pocket an additional $250 - increasing the winner's share from $1,500 to $1,750.
If a driver/team decides to pay an extra $50 and wins the A-Main, he/she will see an added $500 in the pay envelope, bumping the winner's share to $2,000!
Drivers/teams need to pay the extra "Gambler's Fee" prior to the start of time trials on April 6.
Allegrucci has also lined up LHS Race Engines to sponsor one of the 600cc Qualifier Races and the Hard Charger Award in the 600cc Class.
The popular website 600Scene.com and Kevin Steele, along with H.B. Steele & Son Oil Company, have teamed up to provide a drum of VP Race Fuel to the Hard Charger in each class.
RTS Chassis, the Micro-Sprint car building company celebrating its 25th year in business, is the lead sponsor for the 270cc division at this year's Dream, while
American Racer Tires will serve as the lead sponsor for the 600cc portion of the Dream at the Green.
Sunday's press conference - complete video coverage of the sessions is available for viewing at 600Scene.com - revealed one common theme...the drivers are appreciative of Allegrucci's efforts to line their pockets with cash, and they're chomping at the bit to blast around Gerry Creveling's clay oval, going all out to win one of the northeast's most prestigious and lucrative Micro-Sprint events.
2012 GVAT 600cc point champion Jake Starr is preparing to defend his home turf against an All Star cast of invaders. Starr is putting the finishing touches on a brand new car that will bear his familiar No. 8.
Rich Glosser's Super Team, or Glosser's Army, will launch a three-car assault on its competitors at the Dream.
Glosser has Tyler Walton as his weekly winged shoe, and he's also providing cars for Shane Lewis and Rob Pajauis to wheel in the big event on April 6 & 7. And all three teammates let it be known that, while they enjoy working together and learning from one another, they hate to lose and they really hate to lose to a teammate.
Mike Rutherford, last year's 270cc winner, will once again pull double-duty at the Dream. He'll pilot the Kaylor Petro No. 5k as he tries to defend his victory of 2012, and he'll steer Gary Hunter's CARSTAR No. 7h in the 600cc division.
Ross Perchak and Sean Stolz, along with Pajauis, say they'll be ready for battle as they attempt to prevent Rutherford from leaving their home track with the lion's share of the loot.
Just as he's done with his previous two endeavors, Allegrucci is tweaking a few things for this year's Dream.
He's keeping the format the same as last year, with Time Trials leading off the big show on April 6. Viper Chassis will present the 270cc Fast Time Award, while Edge Chassis will do likewise for the 600's.
The timed runs will be followed by 16-lap Qualifiers, offering passing points and a payout to the top 16 finishers. The top four drivers in points (after the qualifiers) will be locked into Sunday's Dash and A-Main.
The 270cc Qualifiers are sponsored by Stolz Stove Sales, DBY Motorsports, and SAF Chassis, while the 600cc Qualifier races are backed by Hyper Racing and 2 Pug Designs, along with recently named LHS Race Engines.
Heat races will follow the Qualifiers, with heat winners receiving a cash bonus and also a spot in the Dash and A-Main on Sunday. The qualifying heats will complete Saturday's portion of the two-day program.
Supporting the 270cc heats are DRE Race Engines and Perchak Trucking. The 600cc heats will be sponsored by TSL Shocks.
On Sunday, April 7, the alphabet mains begin, with a last chance C-Main leading things off, followed by the Dash. One final opportunity to transfer to the feature race - the B-Main - will round out the preliminary events. The 40-lap A-Mains, each one paying $1,500 to win, close the show on Sunday.
R.A. Ahner Furniture (270cc) and 2 Pug Designs (600cc) will sponsor the Dash races.
The race format is the same for both divisions, and only the 270cc and 600cc Micros are on the Dream's menu throughout the entire weekend.
The runner-up in each A-Main gets $1,200, while third place pays $750. Fifth-place finishers will receive $545, while a tenth-place effort will result in a $230 pay envelope.
Taking the green in each of the A-Mains will now be worth $125 at this year's Dream.
The Hard Charger in the 270cc A-Main will earn a cash bonus, courtesy of Skeetz Built Motors. In the 600cc headliner, LHS Race Engines will pay a bonus to the race's Hard Charger. And the Hard Chargers in each feature will receive a drum of VP Racing Fuel, courtesy of 600Scene.com, Kevin Steele, and H.B. Steele & Son.
Allegrucci's other "tweak" comes in the way the C and B-Mains will be lined up...rather than reverting to time trial results, as he did last year, Nunzi will line up the last chance qualifiers by heat race finishes.
There's a Pre-Entry discount for those who sign up early; the entry fee is $60 if the form is postmarked on or before March 30. The entry fee increases to $85 after the 30th of March.
Pre-Entry forms are available by contacting Nunzi Allegrucci. He can be reached by phone at 570-499-0238 or by email at: nunzi@shopnunzis.com.
The Econo Lodge of Bloomsburg is once again the official hotel of the Dream at the Green. They are offering a special rate of $69.99 per night for the race weekend; mention the "racer's rate" when calling to place reservations.
And the Quaker Steak & Lube of Bloomsburg, located next to the Econo Lodge, will serve as the official restaurant for the Dream, offering a 10% discount on food offerings during race weekend. On Saturday, April 6, the Lube will be the site of an after-race party, remaining open until 1:30 a.m. (the kitchen will be open until 12:30 a.m.). There will be a live band and racers will have the chance to unwind after a busy qualifying night at the track.
In 2011, Allegrucci presented his first event at Greenwood Valley. It was a big race just for the 270's, with track regular Sean Stolz taking home the winner's share of the purse. Rutherford, who took a $10,000 challenge to try and win after starting dead last in the talented field, stormed through heavy traffic to finish a fast-closing third behind Stolz and Ryan Smith.
Last season, with the event expanded to include the 600's, Nunzi drew an incredible 64-car field of the 600cc ground pounders, along with 56 of the 270's. The second day was rained out after an exciting night of qualifying action on Saturday. Two weeks after the Dream began, it culminated with Mike Rutherford claiming the $2,000 victory in the 270cc A-Main and Ryan Smith winning a similar amount of cash in the 600cc headliner.
While Stolz and Rutherford will return for this year's edition of the Dream, Smith's 410 Sprint Car committments will most likely prevent him from trying to repeat his victory of one year ago.
Allegrucci has set up a Facebook page for the event; search for The Dream at the Green on the social media site for additional information.
The Greenwood Valley Action Track is located about ten miles north of Bloomsburg, at 179 Bottom Road in Welliversville, PA.
