IRCO RETURNS AS THE
EVENT SPONSOR FOR THE SIXTH ANNUAL IRCO DIRT TRACK HEROES SHOW MARCH 10 TO 16 AT
THE PHILLIPSBURG MALL
The fervent task of
putting together a great show, while time consuming, is a passion from the heart
and a labor of love for the many people who come together to make such an event
happen. Another major addition for the event came together over the weekend as
Phillipsburg, New Jersey based IRCO Community Federal Credit Union has returned
to the popular show as the main event sponsor for the Sixth Annual IRCO Dirt
Track Heroes show. Last year, IRCO took a lateral move with the event and
sponsored the nightly stage shows throughout the course of the week but now
comes back on board to headline the show they headlined sponsored for the
first four years. In announcing the return of IRCO to the marquis position,
IRCO President/CEO Jackie Frey stated, "IRCO Community Federal Credit Union is
pleased to continue its relationship with the Dirt Track Heroes Show. Our
sponsorship of the show the past five years has afforded IRCO an excellent
opportunity to increase our brand awareness and display the various financial
products and services we offer to our community". Mrs Frey further added, "We
are proud to once again work with Bob Miller in bringing to the Phillipsburg
Mall this very successful show that celebrates racing's rich and storied history
in our area as well as displaying today's cars and drivers". IRCO Vice
President Greg Collins has been an integral part of the show since its inception
and will continue in his capacity to assist with the show and to answer any
questions the Mall goers and racing fans have regarding the many services of
IRCO.
The IRCO Dirt Track
Heroes Car Show is set to return to the Phillipsburg Mall in 2013 with opening
day set for Sunday, March 10th. The show encompasses the majority of the local
short track scene and will continue through Saturday night, March 16th. The
Phillipsburg Mall, located on Route 22 East in Phillipsburg, NJ, recently
changed hands in ownership and the new owners, the Mason Asset Management Group,
has assured the Dirt Track Heroes staff it will be business as usual when the
sixth offering of the popular show is presented. New Mall director Lauren
Warner is working with the Dirt Track Heroes staff to insure another succesful
show at the Phillipsburg Mall as the Mall site has proven to be
a popular setting for this special event and the show will once again offer a
broad variety of new and vintage race cars, racing memorabilia, collectibles and
photos on display throughout the Mall for the duration of the show.
The 2012 show
produced 123 race cars from all divisions of racing that filled the Mall space
as the past, present and future of racing were highlighted in a week long show
that celebrated the love each of us has found in attending races and meeting so
many wonderful people associated with the sport. With an exciting and diverse
schedule of events to whet the appetite of any true race fan, large crowds are
expected to flock to the show to fill the wide walkways of the Phillipsburg
Mall. This event is truly a Mall favorite and one of the leading attractions,
continuously drawing outstanding crowds for the week-long event. Successful
events promoter Bob Miller and his wife Donna once again will spearhead the hard
working staff of individuals responsible for the continued success of the show.
The Tri-State area
surrounding the Phillipsburg Mall in Phillipsburg, New Jersey enjoyed a wealth
of great raceways dating back to World War II days and followed into the 50's
years and beyond, and with that one of the great racers of the day, local racing
ace Carl "Fuzzy' Van Horn cast his dreams, hopes and dollars in the local region
not far from the Mall site and began building a dirt track fashioned after the
old Pitman-Alcyon Speedway that was closed somewhere around 1960. Van Horn
opened the Harmony Speedway in 1963 and then budding racing great Sammy Beavers
captured the initial grand opening night event. While the speedway never
enjoyed the success Van Horn envisioned, the legacy of the Harmony race track
and the many more speedways in the Tri-State area that hosted racing events,
brings each of us to the Sixth Annual IRCO Community Federal Credit Union Dirt
Track Heroes Car Show to rekindle memories of the great racing each of the great
race tracks in the area brought to the racing fans.
With an exciting
schedule of events to whet the appetite of any true race fan, large crowds are
expected to "over flow" the Phillipsburg Mall. This event is a Mall favorite and
one of the leading attractions, drawing record crowds for the week-long event.
The restored race
cars represent racing's past or what many race fans refer to as the "Golden Era"
of auto racing. Either way, the spirit of the event itself takes the great fan
base of the event back to a time when they could hop into their family jitney
and travel less than a half hour to witness the excitement of a night at the
races. While some of the cars in attendance are original works, some of the race
cars are replicars, re-created to look much like the racers the legendary
drivers drove to glory at one of the many speedways that hosted racing events.
Those great cars and the preserved memories gain far more impact when the fans
have the opportunity to chat with many of the drivers who will be making special
appearances during the week long event. All historical racing groups including
Reading, Flemington, Harmony, Dorney Park and Nazareth will have their
memorabilia on display and their many scrapbooks open for the fans to take
another long look at the glory years of racing and possibly find a picture or
two they want to purchase as a keepsake from past glory or racing
exploits.
Current day race
cars are displayed by race teams to gain for themselves and their sponsors
additional exposure and create an interest for mall walkers to visit a race
track in their immediate area. The cars are displayed to also exhibit the new
and changing technology of the race cars and with the many restored race cars on
site, depicts the evolution of the many eras of racing ingenuity. The fans can
visit the IRCO Dirt Track Heroes Car Show and on any given night, meet the guys
and gal drivers who pilot these four-wheel high-powered race cars. Many race
tracks participate in this event as a way to distribute their yearly racing
schedules for the upcoming season and to meet and greet their loyal fans and
hopefully make some new fans to attend racing events at their respective
facilities. The show remains free to the public as it has been since first
landing at the Phillipsburg Mall six years ago.
Hall of Fame
modified driver Carl Van Horn will be at the Mall on select nights to sign
autographs and to talk about the many successful seasons he spent behind the
wheel of a high powered Modified and will add his own stories regarding the
Harmony Speedway, a speedway he built for racing in 1963. The URC Sprint Group
and the ARDC Midget Club will have representation at the event and the TSRS and
CRSA 305 sprint clubs are expected to be on hand for the show. All speedways
have been invited to take part in the event to talk about their plans for their
facilities in 2013. Hamlin Speedway has been designated for two evenings in
2013 with the Open Wheeled classes sharing a night with New Egypt Speedway as
well as being on hand the following evening with the Slingshot and Stage One
Modified classes.

and former Lake Mocatek co-announcer Justin Beltrame have already signed on to

festivities for the week long event at 1 PM. The 2012 edition of the event saw
close to 300 interviews highlight the Mall show with drivers, owners, track
owners, media and sponsors all taking part in the
programming.
