RISLONE URC SPRINT
SERIES
ART LIEDL SCORES FIRST
CAREER URC WIN, ROBBIE STILLWAGGON & FRED KENNEDY CLAIM FIRST CAREER RISLONE
URC SPRINT SERIES CHAMPIONSHIP
It all came down to the last
Rislone URC Sprint Series event of the season Saturday night at the Grandview
Speedway. Robbie Stillwaggon of Burlington, NJ came into this show with a
25 point lead over Davie Franek. It was a feature only event sponsored by
Pioneer Pole Buildings with $3,000 to win on the line. Both Stillwaggon and
Franek knew what they had to do in winning the title.
At the start of the 25 lap
feature, Scott Lutz was the early leader with Art Liedl second followed by Joey
Biasi. By lap two, Biasi was second and chasing down the leader. As the
field passed on lap five, Biasi took the lead with Lutz and Randy West following
in the top five. Biasi was strong and ran to hide from the rest of the
field. On lap eight, Randy West moved into second with Liedl fighting back,
taking over the runner-up spot on lap ten.
At this moment came the turning
point of the race and the battle for the championship. As the field completed
lap ten, Davie Franek came to a stop in turn two after tapping the homestretch
wall. Race leader Joey Biasi, with nowhere to go, spun to avoid contact with
the disabled Franek sprinter, displaying the yellow flag. Art Liedl was in
the right place at the right time to inherit the lead, URC title contender was
now in fifth, with his championship challenger going off on the
hook.
With the green flag once again
waiving, Art Liedl set a strong pace as Randy West and Scott Lutz tried to
chase down the leader. At the halfway mark, Liedl, West, Lutz, Kevin Darling
and Robbie Stillwaggon were the top five.
Liedl delivered perfection,
running to hide from the rest of the field. As the laps ticked by, Liedl
came up on slower traffic and suddenly, you see not only West, but the rest of
the five chasing down the leader. The top five remained unchanged but now the
top five was in-sight of the leaders.
With the white flag waiving,
Stillwaggon was now third but just short of time to offer a challenge for the
lead
The checkered flag fell on
Flemington, NJ driver Art Liedl in a very impressive first URC win. URC Sprint
Driver Robbie Stillwaggon and Car Owner Fred Kennedy have also won their first
ever URC Championship in thrilling style. Following Liedl across the finish
line was Randy West, Robbie Stillwaggon, Kevin Darling and Scott
Lutz.
