SSP BIG TRACK RESULTS (9-1-12) SSP OUTBACK TRACK RESULTS (8-31-12)

Knaub Claims First Yourk County Nationals Win on Saturday Night, September 1 at SSP

Summer Shoot-Out Round 9 Friday Night’s Outback Track Results;

Next Wednesday Night Test & Tune on September 5

Newberrytown, PA (September 1, 2012) – Dover's Gene Knaub collected his second Steel Block Bandits Late Model feature of 2012 by winning the 32-lap York County Nationals on Saturday Night at the Susquehanna Speedway Park. Mike Walls of Hanover won his first feature of the season claiming the 25-lap Street Stock race. York’s Patrick McClane won his second Xtreme Stock Car feature of the season during the Labor Day weekend special.

The special 32-lap Late Model feature began with the outside front row starter Randy Stoudt taking the lead at the start. After a quick caution following the completion of the first lap, Gene Knaub grabbed the lead on the restart to lead lap 2. Knaub began to clip off laps of the extended feature until a caution on lap nine bunched up the field once again. With Bob Minnich and J.R. Rodriguez on Knaub’s tail, the race restarted with Knaub once again extending his lead until he came upon lapped traffic. As Knaub masterfully weaved his way through lapped traffic, Steel Block Bandit point leader Andy Fries started 24th and moved strongly to the front as the race progressed. On lap 26, the yellow flag slowed the field to set up a late race dash for the win. By this time, Knaub led, followed by Rodriguez and Minnich still rounding out the top three. However, Fries was sitting in fourth at this time and looking to charge further forward. On the final restart of the race, Knaub once again took command of the top spot and never looked back to record the win at the end. J.R. Rodriguez held off Fries at the finish to claim the runner-up spot. Fries took third place and claimed an additional $25.00 for the JR’s Paving Hard Charger award by moving forward 21 spots in a very stout Steel Block Bandit field. Walker Arthur fiinished solidly in fourth with John Moser Jr. rounding out the top five. Stoudt, Rodriguez, Minnich and Knaub were the heat race victors. Steve Clabaugh and Glenn Elliott each picked up Consolation race wins.

From the front row, Mike Zeigler Jr. took the early lead of the Street Stock 25-lapper in the same fashion as last week’s feature event. However, Mike Walls changed the ending by taking the top spot on lap 8 in the caution–marred feature event. Attrition played a major factor in the race with 10 cars finishing the feature. At the finish Walls took his first Street Stock feature victory of the season over Zeigler. Randy Zechman finished third for the second straight week with JAsen Geesaman in fourth. Jim Palm Jr. rounded out the top five. Zeigelr, Brian Rehbein and Chris Derr were heat race winners.

In the 20-lap Xtreme Stock Car feature event, Donnie Broderick took the early lead from the front row and held onto the top spot until Patrick McClane changed that at the halfway mark by passing Broderick. A caution flag on lap 12 gave Broderick one more shot at McClane, but he was unable to regain the lead over the caution-free remainder of the race. McClane took the victory over Broderick followed by Adam Smith in third. Cameron Benyou was the Madison House hard charger moving up seven spots from an eleventh place starting spot to finish fourth. Chad Stine rounded out the top five. Heat race winners were Broderick and Stine.
