GODOWN POCKETS AN ACE BY WINNING ROC MODIFIED EVENT AT BRIDGEPORT SPEEDWAY

Swedesboro, NJ (April 1, 2012) – At the 41st season opening event at
Bridgeport Speedway, Ryan Godown won the 60-lap Race of Champions
(ROC) Modified feature. In the Crate Sportsman main event, Brett
Kressley took the checkered flag. Terry Griffin took top honors in the
Outlaw Stock Car race.

At the start of the 60-lap ROC Modified feature, Larry Wight thundered
out to the front from his third starting position. Following a caution
on lap 2, a long stretch of green flag racing began as Billy Decker
motored into second on lap 3 with Ryan Godown and Eric Kormann in tow.
By lap 8, Decker was closing in on Wight. The top two began to
encounter lap traffic with fourteen tours completed and this allowed
Godown to narrow the gap. Wight successfully knifed his way by slower
cars and began to re-establish a comfortable margin over Decker with a
third of the race completed. On lap 27, Decker dropped out of the
contest with a mechanical issue. With Decker’s departure, Godown
inherited second place with Rick Laubach advancing into third. At the
halfway point, Wight had a full straightaway lead over Godown and
Brett Hearn, who was on the charge from his twentieth starting spot.
By lap 38, Wight was back into lap traffic and Godown was closing in.
Three laps later, Wight cleared the traffic and Godown, Hearn, and
Rick Laubach were in the pack of the slower running cars. On lap 44,
Laubach snuck by Hearn to gain third and began to stalk down Godown.
Three tours later, Godown’s right rear tire became flat and the second
yellow flag of the feature appeared. When action got back underway,
Wight maintained his lead with Hearn slipping by Laubach to gain the
runner-up position. Coming from the rear of the field after replacing
his tire, Godown was rapidly motoring towards the front. By lap 50,
Godown was in third. On the next circuit, Godown passed Hearn for
second just before the yellow lights flickered for a multi-car tangle
in turn four. On the ensuing restart, Godown used the outside lane in
turns one and two to escape with the lead down the backstretch.
Quickly, the new leader began to set a fast pace and had a full
straightaway lead with five tours remaining. On lap 56, the second
place running Wight blew a right rear tire and the caution flag came
out for the final time. As action got back underway, Godown continued
to pace the field. When the checkered flag flew, it was Godown in
front for his first career Big Block Modified victory at Bridgeport.
With Hearn slowing down on the final lap, Laubach wound up in second
with Watt taking third. Craig Von Dohren and Jimmy Horton completed
the top five. This race served as the opener for Bridgeport’s Modified
Poker Series with the top thirteen finishers receiving a playing card.
Godown earned an Ace with Laubach gaining a King and Watt a Queen.
Billy Decker, Kevin Hirthler, Ryan Watt, Craig Von Dohren and Doug
Manmiller were the winners in the Big Block Modified heats.
Consolation events went to Wade Hendrickson and Sammy Piazza.

Brett Kressley led every step of the way in the 20-lap Crate Sportsman
main event to score his second career win at Bridgeport Speedway.
Kressley held off second place finishing Travis Hill on a lap 17
restart to preserve the victory. Jordan Watson, Matt Budd and Frank
Dorry, Jr. rounded out the top five finishers. Crate Sportsman
qualifying events were won by Frank Dorry, Jr. and Jeff Brown.

In the 15-lap feature for the Outlaw Stocks, Terry Griffin wired the
field for his second career victory. Tom Princiotta finished in second
after starting the contest in ninth. Ron Dirkes bested Jeff Dirkes for
third. Bob Dooley completed the top five.
