MIKE BARONE NABS FIRST BIG BLOCK MODIFIED WIN AT BRIDGEPORT SPEEDWAY

Swedesboro, NJ (April 15, 2012) – On Garden State Vintage Stock Car
Night, Mike Barone nabbed his first Big Block Modified feature win at
Bridgeport Speedway. Ryan Anderson was victorious in the Crate
Sportsmen main event. The Outlaw Stock Car race went to Jeff Dirkes.

In the 30-lap Big Block Modified feature, Mike Barone outdueled Gino
Postorivo to gain the lead. With three tours recorded, Matt Harrell,
who started the event in sixth, moved into second with Brian Kressley
advancing to third. As the laps clicked off in the caution-free
contest, Barone’s advantage over Harrell was diminishing with a third
of the race completed. By lap 13, Harrell was locked onto Barone’s
bumper. One tour later, Barone navigated through lap traffic and
escaped with some needed breathing room. At the halfway point, the top
three of Barone, Harrell and Kressley remained in order with fourth
place running Jimmy Horton tracking nearby. By lap 21, the first four
were in tight quarters in the midst of slower cars. Three circuits
later, Kressley and Horton slipped by Harrell to move into second and
third respectively. With two revolutions remaining in the race, the
top three were in heavy lap traffic. On lap 29, Barone had Kressley on
his tail with Horton in the hunt as well. Barone did a masterful job
in the final circuits to record the win. Kressley held on for second
with Horton taking third. Mike Franz ran a strong race and was
rewarded with a fourth place finish. Harrell wound up in fifth. The
Big Block Modified heat winners were Ryan Watt, Rick Laubach, and Eric
Kormann.

In the latter stages of the 20-lap Crate Sportsmen race, Ryan Anderson
overtook Ricky DiEva and recorded his third career Bridgeport Speedway
victory. DiEva, a rookie racer in the division, set the pace for the
opening fourteen laps. The fifth place starting Anderson advanced into
second with eight circuits concluded. On lap 15, Anderson came out on
top following a good battle with DiEva for the postion. Once in front,
Anderson outlasted the rest of the field for the win. With DiEva in
second, Tommy Beamer wound up in third. Matt Budd and Steve Davis
rounded out the top five. Travis Hill and Ryan Anderson were victors
in the Crate Sportsmen qualifying events.

After winning the heat race, Jeff Dirkes capped off his night with a
win in the 15-lap Outlaw Stock Car contest. Cheri LaClaire led the
opening tour before Terry Griffin took over on the second circuit.
During the second half of the contest, Griffin and Dirkes were racing
side by side and swapping the lead. With Dirkes emerging with his
second straight win, Griffin finished in second. Bob Hopely crossed
the stripe in third. Tom Boehlert and Anthony DiBenedetto filled out
the top five.

The Garden State Vintage Stock Car exhibition event was taken by Wayne Weaver.
