RISLONE URC SPRINT SERIES
URC 2011 ROOKIE OF THE YEAR TROY BETTS EYES SUCCESS IN THE COMING SEASON
Twenty-one year old Troy Betts is ready for the green flag to fall on the 2012 Rislone URC Sprint Series.
"It's going to be a good season for us, I can just feel it", said URC's defending Rookie of the Year winner. "We worked the bugs out last year and learned a lot along the way, but we look to get our first URC win this year". Betts continued to say, "Becca Anderson helped me a lot last year and one big learning was to keep my cool and stay calm". Troy's best finish last year came at the Georgetown Speedway where in finished a strong fifth. "That night, the track was good and the car was excellent and one thing I do know, and that is, I like fast race tracks just like Georgetown", said Betts.
Betts of Newark, DE is employed at the family business, B&G Truck and Trailer in Newark. In the coming season, he will again carry the #22 along with the familiar red, white and black colors. His URC sprint car will sport a Don Ott power plant and he will have pre-staged back-up equipment to keep him going through the season. Dave Betts, Troy's dad is steady fixture with the team and is at all the races in the capacity of car owner, coach and crew chief.
"I really like the schedule this season, especially with shows at the big tracks like Williams Grove where you run wide open. Now Grandview is a totally different beast, where you are on and off the gas and you have to be smooth through the turns", said Betts.
Betts was quick to comment how the competition in URC is tops, especially when you run at the Central Pennsylvania tracks. "If you race against the best, you'll learn to beat the best and, we can learn a lot from those guys who run a hundred races in a year". Betts added, "Those guys are smart racers, they know how to race you hard and know how to race you clean. You can always learn from drivers like Pitman, Dewease and Mark Smith".
Troy strongly agrees with URC's tire pricing for the 2012 season stating, "It's a good thing for us and it actually worked to our benefit to attract sponsors for the coming season".
URC announced that they will be doing double file restarts in the new season. "It will be good for some and maybe a negative for others. I think the double file restarts will help a lot of the younger drivers learn and respect their equipment and their competitors". Betts continued to say, "It should give some drivers a chance to make some moves midway or even late in the race".
The Rislone URC Sprint Series will open at the Delaware International Speedway on Saturday night, April 28. For Troy Betts, Delaware International is his home track and the one place where he would like to score his first career URC win. "We have high expectations for the coming season and we're all ready to get it started".
