RISLONE URC SPRINT SERIES
KEVIN NAGY, SHORT ON POWER, BIG ON ENTHUSIUM FOR 2012 RISLONE URC SPRINT SERIES
Kevin Nagy of East Brunswick, NJ knows he'll be short on power when he competes with URC in the coming season, but his enthusiasm could just make-up for it.
At age thirty-one, Kevin Nagy has enjoyed success in various levels of sprint car racing, but in 2012, he'll be taking on the best drivers of the Rislone URC Sprint Series, the oldest traveling sprint car organization in the county, celebrating their sixty-fifth season in 2012. URC recently announced that in the coming year, 358 sprints will be welcome to compete on their Rislone Sprint Tour. Nagy, who last year raced weekly with the 358 sprints in Central Pennsylvania, now plans to compete with URC where the financial rewards are more enticing. In a very exciting career so far, Nagy owns twenty-two sprint cars wins, and scored his first career win in just his second start. In his rookie year, Nagy won five features which included three back-to-back victories.
Nagy is well aware that going URC racing in the coming year, he is entering the lion's den. The Rislone URC Sprint Tour is no easy street and to make the challenge even greater, he'll be racing a slightly under-powered 358 sprint car against the weekly 360 sprints. "It's a challenge, but we're up to it", said Nagy . "The short tracks we will be OK, but it will be an up -hill battle on the bigger tracks", added Nagy who has 358 sprint car victories at Port Royal, Selinsgrove and Lincoln. These are tracks where the Rislone URC Sprint Series is planning to compete at in 2012.
The Kevin Nagy sprint car will carry the #45 and sport the sponsorship support of Nagy Excavating and Epic Well Drilling. Hi crew includes his Dad Rich, mother Lorraine, brother Rich Jr, good friend Bill Chemidlin and his girlfriend Lauren Cozze.
"I'm going to give it a go even though we will be under-powered, but it's time to make a change. I am happy that URC opened the rules for the 258 sprints as it gives me and my team an opportunity to race at different tracks". Nagy continued to say, "The pay with URC makes the decision a lot easier and the teching from what I hear, is another job well done by URC. I always believed that if you have rules, you need to enforce them, no matter how annoying it may be for the race times at the end of the night".
URC's decision to go with double file restarts has created a lot of discussion, both good and bad. "I generally don't like change, so I am less in favor of the double file restarts, but again, one night it may help you, the next night it could hurt you, as long as it's the same for all, I get it", said Nagy.
"One of my reasons for supporting URC is that they seem to be trying to help the drivers and owners, and I for one, appreciate that".
"I do plan to run the entire Rislone URC Sprint Series and my goal is to be the first driver to win a URC feature this year with a 358 sprint car", to me, that will be a big accomplishment", said Nagy.
The Rislone URC Sprint Series will open at the Delaware International Speedway on Saturday night, April 28.
