JOEY BIASI PLANS FULL ASSAULT ON RISLONE URC SPRINT SERIES IN 2012
Joe Biasi is excited, ready and well prepared for coming 2012 Rislone URC Sprint Series.
Biasi, thirty-one years of age and from Mary D, Pennsylvania has an optimistic outlook for his assault on the Rislone URC Sprint Series for the coming season. Biasi owns one career win with the United Racing Company and returned to URC in 2011 after taking some time off from 360 Sprint car racing. Last year at the September 4 URC event at the Georgetown Speedway Biasi dominated the twenty-five lap feature event and appeared to be well on his way to victory when a tire blew, eliminating his chances for the victory. "That was last year" , commented Biasi in a phone interview just last Friday. "The momentum is strong following that race and we know now that we will be competitive with URC this year".
"That race was a turning point in my career and of course, a confidence builder as we even had a junk motor in that night", said Biasi. For the first time in his racing career, Joey Biasi will have a new car to sport when the 2012 Rislone URC Sprint Series kicks off at the Delaware International Speedway in Delmar, DE on Saturday night, April 28. "We plan to run the entire URC schedule and for the first time, I have the equipment to do that". Biasi added, " And we're confident that we will be competitive". Biasi will start with a brand new Maxim chassis along with a Burns & Youst power plant. Sponsors for the Biasi 1B include GMI Steering, Frank's Truck Lettering, the Race Foundation, Tyler Automotive and Burns & Youst.
URC has pinched some excitement into their new season with the announcement of double file restarts in 2012. "I'm fine with that and I like it as I think it will keep more cars competitive for the win. Biasi continued to say, " I know some drivers are concerned about more crashing but as I see it, there is a slight increased risk in crash but the reward, far out-weighs the risk".
Biasi is also thrilled with the revised handicapping of many of the URC special events. Race dates like the Rislone Nationals at Williams Grove and the Bar's Leaks Nationals at New Egypt will now follow the weekly URC handicapping procedure, replacing time trials. "I'm happy with the change as I'm not real strong on my time trials efforts", said Biasi.
URC is opening the door for the 358 sprints to compete on a weekly basis. The URC business has invested in a whistler and teching of the 358 sprints will be as rigid as they do on the 360 sprints. The Biasi point of view is, "I understand why URC made this change and the 358 and 360 sprints are so close that as long as the motors are being policed, it will not be an issue".
Joey Biasi is also wearing a big smile following the positive announcement of the tire pricing for the URC American Tires in the coming season. The right rear tires will be available for $159. "That's an awesome price as we spent well over $200 per tire last year, that will help our team as well as many other teams in the coming season".
When asked if he was racing for points or feature wins, Joey was quick reply, "We want to win races and if we can do that, the points will come our way".
"We are optimistic of the new year and we have high expectations, but we also know the reality of this sport, but never-the-less, we are coming to race and be competitive", said Biasi.
