MEME DESANTIS LOOKING FOR HIS FOURTH WIN IN BPG RACING FREEDOM 76 AT GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY
BECHTELSVILLE, PA September 15, 2011 . . . Meme DeSantis seems to have been using the BPG Racing Freedom 76 at Grandview Speedway for his own personal piggy bank. He has won the race, worth at least $20,000 each time, the last two years and he has a third win that came back in 2002.
The veteran racer, labeled by his loyal fans as the “Temple Tornado” (he lives in Temple, PA), seems to be at his very best when it comes time for the annual running of the dirt track racing classic. This will be the 41st annual running of the Freedom 76.
As is the case each year the race, 76 laps on the one-third-mile, banked clay track, attracts some of the very best dirt track stock car racing talents in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic areas.
DeSantis is without a win this season at Grandview Speedway but he will be ready for the challengers that will be on hand hoping to keep the popular racer from getting his third Freedom 76 victory in a row and the fourth of his legendary career.
The “over 50” racer will go up against such talents as Billy Pauch, Duane Howard, Jeff Strunk, Craig VonDohren, and Ray Swinehart. They have all won the event in the past with Pauch having six wins with the last one coming back in 2000.
Dirt racing legend Alan Johnson is entered along with Wade Hendrickson, Jimmy Horton, Billy Pauch Jr., Mike Gular, Terry Meitzler, Ryan Godown, Stewart Friesen, Glenn Strunk, Keith Hoffman and a long, long list of others.
Included in the night of racing will be a full series of qualifying heats (each winner getting a case of beer from Bert Jones’ Beer City in Quakertown, PA), consolation events, Schaefer Motorsports Minuteman 20, $1,000 to win Mertz Flying Mullet Cash Dash and the BPG Racing Freedom 76.
Adult admission is $30 while children 6 through 11 pay $10, youngsters under 6 are admitted FREE. There is free parking on the speedway grounds and parking across the street from the speedway which is available for a small fee. Pit passes are priced at $40 and no NASCAR license is required.
Advance tickets will be on sale at the speedway on Friday, September 16th, 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the red office building located at the main entrance.
The Auto Glass Specialties BPG Racing Freedom Fan Fest is set to start at 1 p.m. and will include a dunk tank, driver autographs, race cars on display, driver interviews and kids games. That event goes on until 4 p.m.
Advance ticket holders will be admitted to the speedway at 4 p.m. with the ticket office opening at 4:30 p.m.
