AFTER A NINE WEEK WAIT, NEETS ENDURO RACING RETURNS TO GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY ON SUNDAY SEPT. 25…By Gary Lileck
Bechtelsville, PA – September 18, 2011 – The North East Enduro Tour Series completed their most recent Grandview Speedway event back on July 24. The annual DirtStock race was up next, however, Hurricane Irene forced that event’s cancellation. Therefore, the NEETS regular season will conclude with a pair of huge events, and point championships will be on the line.
This Sunday September 25, NEETS kicks its dirt season back into gear after a nine week hiatus. The Junk-A-Thon will take center stage featuring a 125-lap Big Car Enduro, a 125-lap Small Car Enduro, a pair of 15-lap exhibition races for the Vintage Race Cars, and a Ladies Race. For complete details on registration and rules for this event visit the tour’s official website located at www.neetsracing.com . Many of the area’s top enduro competitors have already registered for the afternoon’s activities.
Pit gates will open promptly at 8:00AM for registration and technical inspection. Racing begins at 1:00PM. For the Vintage Race Cars, it is their 2011 season finale under the NEETS banner. A wide variety of classic race cars supported the tour this season, and a good field is expected back for the finale this Sunday.
With just two point races remaining, highly accomplished racing veteran Tim Pauch of Stockton NJ is searching for a possible third straight championship in the Big Car division. Tim is the brother of legendary Modified figure Billy Pauch, and he has certainly made a successful name for himself in the world of enduro racing for the past several decades. Pauch has competed in enduros at such tracks as the closed Flemington (NJ) Fairgrounds and Penn National (PA) Speedway.
Racing just 50 markers behind Pauch in the standings is the always consistent Jason Brown of Schuylkill Haven PA. Brown has been competing in enduros for the past several years and has been so close to grabbing a first career victory. Chuck Eckert, who is the son of the legendary “Chargin” Charlie Eckert, is currently third in the standings followed by well-established racing veteran Bob “Mad Dog” Wink, and the always fast Pat Hires.
An incredible championship battle is taking shape in the Small Car division as only 97 points separate the top nine drivers. Exton’s Dave Bentley Jr., the 2009 champion, currently leads veteran Grandview Speedway competitor Pete Wharton of Bally PA by a mere 17 markers. New Jersey’s Brian Smith sits in the third position followed by the popular local racing talent of Dan Daigneault. Versatile enduro racer Art Kulik, who competes regularly on both dirt and asphalt, rounds out the top five.
The Montgomery County SPCA of Periomenville PA will be on hand this Sunday collecting pet food and supplies for their shelter which is located just a few miles from the speedway. All fans and competitors are asked to participate and help this fine organization. For more information on the Montgomery County SPCA, visit their website located at www.montgomerycountyspca.org .
The always exciting and entertaining Mutha Of All Enduros will take place at Grandview Speedway on Sunday October 16. The Big Cars and Small Cars will each compete in a 150-lap Enduro and of course it is the final points race of the season. The NEETS tour will conclude their 2011 season at the Wall (NJ) Stadium on October 23 and November 27.
The NEETS dirt season awards banquet takes place on Saturday November 12th at Joseph’s Catering Inc., located at 901 Horsham Road in Horsham PA. A reminder that the cut-off date to order tickets is October 29th. Tickets for the awards banquet will be available at the registration office this Sunday and at the October 16 event.
Enduro racing is an affordable and fun form of racing that brings a mixture of veterans and newcomers to the playing field for each and every event. If you are interested in joining in on the excitement, rules and regulations can be found on the tour’s official website located at www.neetsracing.com .
