FULL STORY
KELLNER GETS SECOND CAREER NASCAR 358 MODIFIED WIN AND KLINE GETS 5TH LATE MODEL WIN OF SEASON AT GRANDVIEW

BECHTELSVILLE, PA September 4, 2011 . . . Young Jon Kellner Jr. drove his own Power Washers/Mary Kay Products sponsored No. 67 to victory, his second career win, in the 30-lap NASCAR 358 Modified feature race at Grandview Speedway on Saturday night while Ron Kline wheeled his own V&M Towing/Harleysville Mattress No. 3 to his fifth win of the season claiming the 30-lap Late Model Memorial Classic.
“I tried not to make any mistakes in the closing laps,” said Kellner in victory lane. “I dealt with it (Strunk being right on his rear) on top where the groove was.”
Kellner got the jump on Bobby Gunther Walsh, who shared the front row with him, at the start of the 30-lap Modified feature. Once in front the Lansdale, PA youngster led the 29 car starting field through the first lap and all the laps that followed.
Kellner, Walsh and Ron Seltman set the pace in the early laps. At six laps Nate Christman and Mike Laise tangled in the fourth turn bringing out the first caution. One lap later Kevin Hirthler spun and went to the pits.
At the midway mark Kellner was still in front with Jarrad Miller putting pressure on. Track champion Duane Howard stopped in turn four with a tire issue and went to the pits. Kyle Weiss brought out a caution on lap later when he spun.
The battle for the top spot continued with Terry Meitzler now applying the pressure to the leader. Ryan Godown, in third, broke on the 23rd lap and that caution closed the field up on Kellner.
With five laps to go Jeff Strunk and Terry Meitzler were challenging for the top spot but the youngster was able to hold on to the lead and have a 0.192 second edge at the checkered flag to gain the $2,500 win over point leader Jeff Strunk (Bechtelsville), coming from 14th starting spot, followed by Meitzler (Kutztown), Jarrad Miller (Barto) and Doug Manmiller (Shoemakersville) who came from 29th starting spot to finish fifth.
In the 30-lap Memorial Classic for the Late Models, a remembrance to those who were involved at Grandview over the years and had passed on, had Kory Fleming setting the pace at the start with John Favinger right on his rear.
At the 10-lap mark Fleming, looking for his first career win at Grandview, had Danny Snyder and Ron Kline to contend with.
On the 18th lap Fleming bobbled in turn two and that allowed Kline to get under him and take the top spot.
With one lap to go John Giesler spun in Turn 3 and that brought out the caution closing up the field on the leader.
Kline, a past champion, was able to lead the final lap and tab his 5th win of the season. It was the second time that Kline had been able to win a Memorial Classic. The Salford racer had a narrow margin over current point leader Chuck Schutz (Pottstown) at the finish. Third spot went to Randy Stoudt (Pottstown) coming from 18th starting position while Danny Snyder (Green Lane) and Lou Egrie Sr. (Willow Grove) followed.
“The car was good and the track was good,” said the winner in victory lane. “All of us that race Late Models here should give thanks to Mark Garman for putting this event together for us.” The win was worth $1,275 to Kline and attracted the largest field of Late Models this season with 25 cars starting the feature race.
Qualifying heat races for the 358 Modifieds, each 12 laps, were won by Terry Meitzler, Ron Seltman, Jon Kellner Jr. and Mike Laise. Consolation events, 10 laps each, saw wins going to Kyle Weiss and Chris Esposito. For the Late Models qualifying events (each 8 laps) went to John Favinger, Mike Kellner and Ron Kline while the special Passmore Pursuit, 8 cars racing 8 laps with last place driver on each lap dropping out, was won by Randy Stoudt.
The Cargo Trailer Sales gift certificates went to 10th place feature finishers Rick Todorow in the Late Models and Glenn Strunk in the Modifieds.
The Dan’s Deli Halfway Leader awards in each feature were presented to Jon Kellner Jr. in Modifieds and Kory Fleming in the Late Models.
The Salvage Transport Late Model Hard Charger award was earned by Randy Stoudt coming from 18th starting spot to finish third while the Mike Kramer/Sponsors of Bobby Gunther Walsh Modified Hard Charger Award went to Meme DeSantis who charged from 24th to 8th.
Christman’s Meat Market gave a $30 pit pass to Ron Kline
