URC EYES CHANGES TO HELP COMPETITORS IN 2011 AND BEYOND

URC car owners received their first taste of the RISLONE Loyalty Reward Program as checks were written to eligible owners before the rains fell at Selinsgrove Speedway, Saturday evening. Those eligible owners not making it to Selinsgrove will receive their checks in the mail early this week. Eighteen URC car owners were eligible for the reward program with their attendance record over the last six weeks, and those car owners split a total of $7500.00 in bonus money. URC now offers another $7500.00 bonus for those owners attending five of the next six races on the URC schedule, and that bonus will be paid on October 1st at Delaware Int’l Speedway.

The RISLONE Loyalty Reward Program was well received by URC race teams and is only one of the ways URC is attempting to help their race teams through these very challenging economic times. URC is actively soliciting input from their car owners for ways to help racers to compete in more of the scheduled Rislone URC Sprint Series events. A field of 30 URC sprints turned out along with a banner crowd at Big Diamond Raceway on Friday night, and the anticipated field at URC’s rained out show at Selinsgrove on Saturday was in the mid-thirties. “Though we are encouraged by the good car count this past weekend,” Bob Miller comments, “we realize the need to take a proactive approach by helping our teams from a financial perspective.”

The work goes on.

URC announced a handicapping change this weekend; a change made to entice the rising number of part-time racers within the organization. Cars will still be handicapped off their point average, and an owner only needs 3 URC appearances to earn a point average for the season. The major change occurs with dropping the requirement to attend 3 of the last 5 races to earn their handicapped position in the heat races. There is only a one race penalty now for missing a URC race, and by the next race, that car rolls right back into the URC handicapping system, provided they had three appearances during the season to earn an average. This change will also benefit full-time teams that encounter a major problem, such as an engine problem or an injury, which may drop them from the old 3 out of 5 system.

Numerous discussions with URC car owners have netted many ideas now being considered by the Zimmerman's and Millers. One such idea has already been adopted in changing the handicapping system for URC’s biggest event, the URC Rislone Nationals at Williams Grove Speedway. Time trials, not a favorite event for fans or track promoters, will be dropped and replaced by URC’s regular handicapping system for the Rislone Nationals. In addition, all URC car spec rules will be enforced to include the American Racer on both the right and left rear points.

“We are working on a major announcement regarding a second URC National event in 2012,” stated Cher Zimmerman. “This will be a track URC racers regard as one of their own, which will be run under the regular URC format and handicapping system.”

In another positive decision, URC has decided to take a “hiatus” from their annual URC banquet, and instead, payout the remainder of the $60,000 point fund at the season finale Pioneer Pole Building event at Grandview Speedway on October 15th, where the 2011 URC Champions will be crowned. “Though it was a tough decision to walk away from what the racing fraternity deemed one of the most elite banquets in racing, this will get the point fund money into the hands of our car owners earlier, and eliminate the cost of buying banquet tickets and hotel rooms,” John Zimmerman commented. “URC feels this decision will help teams retain their lucrative point fund earnings for their 2012 URC racing efforts.

URC is not permanently ending their banquet, just taking a year off, and URC will re-evaluate evolving economic climates next year.”

John and Cheryl Zimmerman and Bob Miller have been taking a very serious approach regarding the impact the economy has taken on our very valuable car owners. “Although URC remains strong and healthy” Bob Miller adds, “we need to get ahead of the challenges and threats we face by offering help and relief in a variety of ways to our competitors.”

URC is contemplating a variety of tweaks for 2012 that will prove their true intent of working to control costs of 360 sprint car racing.
