Kid’s Box Car Racing at SSP This Saturday Night
Also All Residents of Duncannon, Enola, Marysville and Shermansdale Admitted Free
Newberrytown, PA (June 21, 2011) – This Saturday night, June 25 will be the next "Hometown Heroes" Night for the towns of Duncannon, Enola, Marysville and Shermansdale. All fans entering the speedway from the state of Maryland will be admitted FREE to the grandstands by showing proper photo identification and filling out an information card at the ticket booth.
Racing action will include the Late Models, Street Stocks, Xtreme Stock Cars, Classic Cars and Mini Vans. Saturday night will also feature the popular Kid’s Box Car Races. Prizes will be available for all entrants in the Kid’s Box Car Races. All children ages 10 and under are encouraged to decorate their boxes and compete in the races. A box car is a racecar made out of a box (with their arms, legs and head sticking out). Two family members or friends are needed for the pit crew. This will be a two-(2) lap race (on the frontstretch) with a pit stop. The pit stop will include taking off and putting shoes back on both feet for tire changes, washing the face to clean windshield and drinking a drink for fuel. On Saturday night, racing action begins at 7:00 p.m. Pit gates will open at 4:30 p.m. and the grandstand gates will open at 5:00 p.m. Warmups begin at 6:40 p.m. followed by qualifying heat races, consolation races and feature events.
General Admission Grandstand ticket prices for Saturday night are Adults (ages 18-59) $12.00; Young Adults (ages 11-17) & Senior Adults (60 & Older) $10.00; Children (10 & under) are free.
Pit pass prices for Saturday and Sunday are $25.00 with a reduced price of $20.00 for all pit competitor license holders. The minimum age requirement to purchase a pit pass is 12 years of age with a copy of a birth certificate is required for all ages 12 to 14.
The popular "Repeat Fan Discount" program continues at SSP in 2011 for the eighth straight season. This is a $2.00 repeat fan discount for each person with a ticket stub from races during the previous week's events completed only. Returning fans are encouraged to write their name, address and phone number on the back of the stub to be entered into special drawings during and at the end of the season for great prizes. The Repeat Fan Discount is not valid for pit pass purchases.
Last Saturday night, there were 10 feature events at the Susquehanna Speedway Park that saw multiple winners. Justin Ehrhart of Dover won his second Late Model feature event over Jason Rochelle and Gene Knaub. Fawn Grove’s Chris Knopp won his second feature event of the year by claiming the make-up Late Model feature earlier in the evening. In Street Stock racing action, Dan Zechman of Hanover led the final 16 circuits of the Street Stock 20 lapper to win his fourth feature of the 2011 season. In the makeup Street Stock feature event, Auburn’s Jeff Haag led all twenty laps to claim his first feature event of the season. Cameron Benyou took the lead at the halfway point of the Xtreme Stock Car 20-lap feature to claim his first checkered flag of the year. In the makeup XSC event, Matt Wampler took the checkers. Carlisle’s Curt McDade won both the regular and makeup Road Warrior feature events. Brent Marquis of Churchville, MD won the regular 15-lap feature event. In the makeup Legends Cars feature, Tim Henry of Orefield picked up the victory.
The SSP Outback Track will be back in action on Friday night, June 24. Racing on the 1/9 mile track includes Quarter Midgets, Karts, Adult Speedcars and lawnmowers. Gates open at 5:45 p.m. with racing action beginning at 7:30 p.m.

The Next Wednesday Night Test & Tune is on June 29
The next Wednesday Night Test & Tune session will be held on Wednesday, June 29 at the Susquehanna Speedway Park. It is open to any type of racecars capable of competing on the 4/10 mile oval. The cost is $12.00 per person for pit passes and a $20.00 fee for each racecar entering the pit area ($32.00 per car & driver combination). Gates will open at 5:00 p.m. with open track time from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. by class. Each session will be 6 – 8 laps per session. The grandstands are open free to the public. Each class will receive 4 to 5 rounds of 6/8 laps each or more if time permits. The fuel pumps from Miller’s Racing Parts will not be open. Anyone needing fuel should contact Miller’s Racing Parts directly at 717-766-0181. The main concession stand will be open throughout the night.
Also on Wednesday night, there will an open practice session for quarter midgets and karts at the Outback Track from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. under the lights. The gates will open at 5:30 p.m. with open practice from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The cost will be $20.00 per driver with no charge for anyone else entering the grandstand and “cold pit” areas. A registration form will appear, fill out the appropriate information and hit enter to submit. A cell phone text message will be received momentarily, offering a validation code that needs to be typed in to complete the registration.
- Track Rental for the "Big Track" and the "Outback Track" - The "Big track" and the "Outback track" are available for rent. The "Big Track" rental fee is $1,400.00 for 4 hours and may be split between a maximum of five-(5) drivers/teams. Only one car is permitted on the track at a time. If an ambulance is requested, it is an additional $75.00 per hour. For nighttime rentals at the "Big Track", an additional $100.00 per hour will be charged for lights.
The rental price for the "Outback Track" is $400.00 for 4 hours during the day /$500.00 at night and may be split between a maximum of five-(5) drivers/teams. To reserve either track, please call 717-292-1696.
