EXCITING NEETS ENDURO RACING RETURNS TO GRANDVIEW SPEEDWAY ON SUNDAY JULY 3...By Gary Lileck
Bechtelsville PA, June 22, 2011 - The 2011 season has been spectacular thus far for the North East Enduro Tour Series (NEETS). It continues on Sunday July 3 at Grandview Speedway with another action packed racing card.
As part of the annual “Firecracker Smacker” event the Big Car Enduro division will compete in “The M-80” 107-lap race while the Small Car Enduro class battles for glory in the “Roman Candle” 104-lap contest. The popular Outlaw Slingshots will present a full card of racing, culminating with a 25-lap main event. The Ladies Enduro class concludes the afternoon’s program of events.
The Big Car Enduro division returns after a showdown under the lights at Grandview back on Saturday June 18. Pat Hires of Levittown PA was the race winner aboard his potent Monte Carlo bodied #2 machine. Other winners this season include: Stockton NJ’s Tim Pauch (younger brother of legendary dirt Modified competitor Billy Pauch Sr.), and Justen Steigerwalt of Barto PA, who opened up the 2011 campaign with a pair of triumphs.
Steigerwalt and Pauch are locked in a tie for the current point standings lead. Steigerwalt is searching for his first ever NEETS championship, while Pauch is the two-time defending tour point king. Chuck Eckert of Schuylkill Haven PA, son of the Late Modified star “Chargin” Charlie Eckert, currently sit’s a mere six markers behind in the third spot. Accomplished racing veteran Bob “Maddawg” Wink of Palm PA trails the leaders by 22 points and is engaged in a tie with Darrel Herman of Allentown PA. Forty-three different drivers have competed in the opening three Big Car events.
Hires is also the most recent winner in Small Car competition, as he was victorious in a 100-lapper back on June 5. Joe Grocholski of Quakertown and Steve Wilson of Green Lane have earned victories thus far in 2011.
Talented second generation racer Dave Bentley Jr. of Exton PA is leading the current Small Car point standings. Bentley, the 2009 tour champion, has finished no worse than fifth this season. Sitting just six points behind the leader in the runner-up spot is the always consistent Brian Smith of Washington NJ. 19-year old Justin Dunn of Yardville NJ is 28 points out of the lead in third while veteran Grandview racer Pete Wharton of Bally PA is 30 markers back in fourth. Wilson rounds out the top five, just 32 points behind the leader.
The Ladies division has seen three different victorious drivers in 2011 including Jen Schwager of Bechtelsville, Katie Todorow of Quakertown, and Linsey Rummel of Parkerford. Despite being shut out of the winner’s circle, Stephanie Reid of Mertzown has been enjoying a successful season and currently leads the point standings.
The Outlaw Slingshots have been a welcome addition to the NEETS shows this year. Another talented second generation racer Shannon Smith was victorious in the most previous Outlaw Slinger event back on June 5.
On July 3, pit gates will open at 8AM for registration and technical inspections. Hot laps for the Slingshots take place at 12:00PM followed by an Enduro driver’s meeting at 12:30PM. Slinger heats will begin at 1:00PM. Adult general admission to this event is just $10. For rules and latest information, visit the tour’s official website located at www.neetsracing.com
In other NEETS related news, promoter Joe Cutri has announced the official date and times for the 2011 Award’s Banquet. It will take place on Saturday November 12 at St. Joseph’s Catering Inc. in Horsham PA. Tickets will be available for purchase at the upcoming July 3 event.
