Big Diamond Speedway Returns To Action Friday; Rick Laubach (358), Kevin Beach Jr. (Sportsman) and Ricky Bender (Roadrunner) Lead Early Standings As Competitors Are Greeted With Smooth Big D Track Conditions
MINERSVILLE, PA - Big Diamond Speedway returns to action this Friday on the heels of its first 2011 event run 'under the lights' on April 29.

A tabletop smooth clay surface greeted racers last Friday as 'The Professor' Glenn Strunk of Bechtelsville, Pa. (The Station House 358-Modifieds), Paul Kline of Reading, Pa. (U.S.S. Achey Sportsman) and Kevin Olenick of Forestville, Pa. (Wooden Keg Tavern Roadrunner) visited Victory Lane, all for the first time in 2011 at the Schuylkill County oval. Drivers in all divisions praised the new Big D surface in its first nighttime test.
The second Community Night of the season takes place this Friday (May 6) for a three-division show of 358-Modifieds (qualifying and 25-lap feature), Sportsman (qualifying and 20-lap feature) and Roadrunners (qualifying and 20-lap feature).  Residents of Valley View, Hegins, Fountain and Klingerstown will receive discounted admission - $10 with proof of residence - as part of the community driven program.

Gates open at 5 p.m. with hot laps at 7:55 p.m. and the first heat at 8:15 p.m. All Friday shows feature an 8:15 p.m. start time this year.  Grandstand admission is $13 (Adults), $10 (Seniors & Military), $5 (Kids 6-12) and FREE for those five years of age and under. Pit admission for members is $25 and $35 for non-members.

Opening Day winner Rick Laubach of Quakertown, Pa., leads the 358-Modified standings after two weeks of competition. Laubach is a two-time New Egypt (N.J.) Speedway champion but has never won a title at Big Diamond. 2009 champion Kevin Beach Jr. of Llewellyn, Pa., tops the Sportsman standings while Ricky Bender of Joliett, Pa., is the Roadrunner leader with a first and second to his credit.

The Station House 358-Modifieds take part in their second extra-distance event of the '11 season on Friday, May 13 with the 'Freaky Friday' special offering a $3,000 top prize for 35 laps of racing. The Sportsman and Roadrunner divisions complete the card. The first Enduro race of the season is set for May 15 at 5 p.m. with Dan Drobnick Welding serving as the sponsor.

Upcoming additions to the schedule include Big Wheel Races on May 27 (age groups 2-4 & 5-6) and a new sponsor, Hoysock Landscaping, joins the June 24 show which includes Twin 15s for the Roadrunners plus 358-Modifieds and Sportsman.

A highlight event at Big D this season is set for Wednesday, June 22 with the 'Anthracite Assault' Race of Champions Dirt Modified Tour invades Coal Country for the first time since 2006 in a BD Motorsports Media/Race of Champions Motorsports production. The big-block/small-block Modifieds run 60 laps with a minimum $4,000 posted to the winner in addition to $500 for the highest-finishing small-block. VIP rooms are available for small groups to rent at an affordable rate in 2011. The VIP rooms are ideal to host parties, work/employee outings, or simply to enjoy a night of dirt-track stock car racing with friends. Three VIP rooms are available for rent at the speedway - all climate-controlled with heating and air conditioning and out of the elements. The VIP rooms provide the "best seats in the house" overlooking the action on the speedway.

VIP room rental cost is $350 per night (there could be a price increase for special events). Rentals include eight general admission passes, beverages, snacks, eight hot dogs and eight hamburgers.  Guests are permitted to bring alcohol into VIP rooms. Guest maximum capacity is recommended at 10, but larger parties can be accommodated.  A $50 charge could be assessed if extensive cleanup is required.
