Two Nights Of Racing Set For Big Diamond Speedway This Weekend; 'Freaky Friday' $3,000 358-Modified Event Friday (May 13) & First Enduro Event Of 2011 Sunday (May 15)

MINERSVILLE, PA - Big Diamond Speedway is set for two days of competition this weekend.
 
The Schuylkill County clay oval hosts is second extra-distance event of the season for The Station House 358-Modifieds on Friday (May 13). The 'Freaky Friday' 358-Mod winner earns $3,000 for a 35-lap main event following qualifying events. U.S.S. Achey Sportsman (qualifying and 20-lap feature) and Wooden Keg Tavern Roadrunners (qualifying and 20-lap feature) complete the program.
 
Current 358-Modified point leader Rick Laubach of Quakertown, Pa., won the most recent extra-distance event at Big Diamond on April 17. There will be plenty of talent on hand to challenge Laubach for the 'Freaky Friday' special including most recent winner and defending champion Doug Manmiller, all-time leading Big D winner Craig Von Dohren, Jeff and Glenn Strunk, Duane Howard, Mike Gular, Keith Hoffman, Meme DeSantis, Billy Pauch Jr., Wade Hendrickson and others.
 
Gates open at 5 p.m. with hot laps at 7:55 p.m. and the first heat at 8:15 p.m. Special event admission for the May 13 event is $15 for Adults, $12 for Seniors and Military (with proof of ID), $5 for Kids (ages 6-12) and FREE for children six years of age and younger. Pit admission is $25 for members and $35 for non-members.
 
Kevin Beach Jr. of Llewellyn, Pa., is the Sportsman division point leader over teenager Jared Umbenhauer, while Friday-night winner Ryan Olenick of Forestville, Pa., sits atop the Roadrunner standings.
 
There have been no repeat winners in nine feature events (for three divisions) contested thus far in 2011.
 
On Sunday (May 15), the first Dan Drobnick Welding Enduro event takes place at 5 p.m. The Big Car (6/8-Cylinders) and Small Car (4-Cylinder) divisions go 100 laps. There will be a Ladies Race with number of laps dependent on car count. Pre-registration is $50 in advance and $65 on race day. Grandstand admission Sunday is $7 with pit admission $20. Pit gates open at 2 p.m. with grandstand gates unlocked at 3 p.m.

A highlight event at Big D this season is set for Wednesday, June 22 with the 'Anthracite Assault' Race of Champions Dirt Modified Tour invades Coal Country for the first time since 2006 in a BD Motorsports Media/Race of Champions Motorsports production. The big-block/small-block Modifieds run 60 laps with a minimum $4,000 posted to the winner in addition to $500 for the highest-finishing small-block. VIP rooms are available for small groups to rent at an affordable rate in 2011. The VIP rooms are ideal to host parties, work/employee outings, or simply to enjoy a night of dirt-track stock car racing with friends. Three VIP rooms are available for rent at the speedway - all climate-controlled with heating and air conditioning and out of the elements. The VIP rooms provide the "best seats in the house" overlooking the action on the speedway.

VIP room rental cost is $350 per night (there could be a price increase for special events). Rentals include eight general admission passes, beverages, snacks, eight hot dogs and eight hamburgers.  Guests are permitted to bring alcohol into VIP rooms. Guest maximum capacity is recommended at 10, but larger parties can be accommodated.  A $50 charge could be assessed if extensive cleanup is required.
