DAVE ELY & ED AIKIN TO ATTACK THE BEST OF URC IN SEASON OPENER AT BRIDGEPORT SATURDAY
The sixty-fourth season of the Rislone URC Sprint Series will get underway at the Bridgeport Speedway this Saturday night and an all star cast of competitors will be shooting for the $2,000 first place prize in the 25 lap feature. Among the many stars heading to the five-eighth mile Bridgeport Speedway will be URC's 2003 champion Dave Ely of West Lawn, PA. Along with being a former champion, Ely has eleven career wins under the URC banner. Ely's success is not only in URC, be he has numerous 410 sprint wins, ARDC feature wins and won a 360 National event in Virginia a few years back. Ed Aikin of Lincoln University, PA is also returning to the URC wars. Aikin owns four URC wins including the Rislone Nationals event at the Williams Grove Speedway in 2007.
Headlining the driver roster in 2011 is defending champion Curt Michael and 2009 champion JJ Grasso. This two drivers battled to the final race of 2010 with Michael coming out on top for his seventh Rislone URC Sprint Series Title. In 2011, look for Josh Weller of Mertztown, PA to be in the hunt for the championship. Weller was a weekly threat to take the win and collected enough points to finish third in the season long point chase.
Robbie Stillwaggon, Randy West, Art Liedl, Jonathan Swanson, Becca Anderson and Kramer Williamson will also be in the hunt to take the victory in the Bridgeport opener along with Scott Pursell, Mark Bitner, Tim Hogue and Eddie Wagner.
Following the Bridgeport Speedway Rislone URC Sprint Series kickoff, the sprinters will travel to the Delaware International Speedway on Saturday night, August 16.
The first of nine special events for URC will take place on Saturday night, May 7 with a 360 sprint challenge at the Black Rock Speedway in Dundee, NY. The following week, Saturday, May 14 URC and the 358 sprints will team up the Jack Gunn Memorial Challenge at the Selinsgrove Speedway. This $3,500 to win race in now in its' sixth year with previous winners Trevor Lewis (2009-10), Blane Heimbach (2006, 2008) and Dave Calaman in 2007.
