THUNDER SERIES TO OPEN AT GRANDVIEW  WEDNESDAY, MAY 25. . . .COUNTDOWN TO "100"  UNDERWAY

 

2011 will mark the twenty-second season of the NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing Series at the Grandview,  with the Series this year reaching a milestone of their one-hundredth event since the series started  in  August of 1990.     Thunder on the Hill has been anything but the "same old" show introducing a variety of different divisions throughout its' history.    

 

The NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing  Series  season opener on Wednesday night, May 25  will feature the Keystone Cup 410 Sprint Series joined by the popular 358 Modifieds.    Tyler Walker, Lance Dewease, Fred Rahmer, Greg Hodnett, Mark Smith, Steve Smith and Brian Montieth are some of the drivers expected to chase the $5,000 first place prize in the 35 lap 410 sprint feature.  In the 358 Modified division, red hot Duane Howard will be the lead contender with challenges from Craig VonDohren, Billy Pauch, Rick Laubach, Jeff Strunk and Kevin Hirthler.    Adult general admission for this premier event is a reasonable $20, children 6-11 are just $5.   The pit fee will be $25 and a license is not required.

 

The second Thunder event of 2011 is the return of the AMSOIL  USAC National Wingless Sprint Tour for the Jesse Hockett Classic on Tuesday night,  May 31.    $6,000 will go to the winner of the 40 lap feature event that will showcase the nationally known drivers of USAC.   Levi Jones,  Bryan Clauson, Jerry Coons Jr., Dave Darland, Tracy Hines, Chris Windom, Robert Ballou, Hunter Schurenburg, Brady Short, Casey Shuman and Damion Gardner.  The ARDC Wingless Midgets will be part of this open wheel double-header.     Time trials are not always the most exciting event of the night, but some will say that USAC time trials at Grandview are alone, worth the price of admission.  They are  just that exciting.

 

The AMSOIL USAC National Sprint Tour will head to the New Egypt Speedway on Thursday night,  June 2nd.  The USAC wingless sprints will double-up with the Big Block Modifieds for this rare visit by USAC to the state of New Jersey.

 

On Tuesday night, June 28 the milestone 100th Thunder on the Hill event will take place at Grandview Speedway.   The always popular Pennsylvania Sprint Speed Week Series  for the 410 sprints will share the card with the 358 Modifieds.   Race time is 7:30 PM.
