Continued Wet Weather Forces Additional Big Diamond Speedway Schedule Changes; Practice Pushed Back To April 10, Opener Now April 17
MINERSVILLE, PA - Heavy soaking rains all day Friday combined with persistent precipitation throughout the week forced Big Diamond Speedway management to postpone its open practice session and 39th Season Opener.

 

The open practice slated for Saturday, April 9 will not go off as scheduled. It has been moved to Sunday, April 10 with gates opening at noon and cars on the track at 2 p.m.

 

"With the amount of clay (3,000 tons) that has been put down on the track and the excessive amount of rain this week, we want to get a profile of the surface and have some cars on the track before our first event," speedway owner Fritz Roehrig said. "We know this is disappointing to our fans but the weather this spring has been fighting us. We want our season opener to be the best show possible."

With the revised schedule, Big Diamond Speedway officially opens its 39th season of racing on Sunday, April 17 with a three-division program headlined by The Station House 358-Modifieds in a 35-lap feature paying $3,000 to the winner following a series of qualifying events. The U.S.S. Achey Sportsman (qualifying and 20-lap feature) and Wooden Keg Tavern Roadrunners (qualifying and 20-lap feature) complete the program.  Season-long points battles for all three divisions commence on Sunday.

Gates will open at 2 p.m., with hot laps at 4:35 p.m. and racing at 5 p.m.

Special event admission for the April 17 opener is $15 for Adults, $12 for Seniors and Military (with proof of ID), $5 for Kids (ages 6-12) and FREE for children six years of age and younger. Pit admission is $25 for members and $35 for non-members.

Fans will be treated to FREE giveaways including an Apple iPad, gift cards for the Wooden Keg Tavern and kids big wheels and bicycles.

 

The Community Night that had been slated for April 17 has been postponed to Friday, April 29. Minersville/Pottsville/Llewellyn/Branch Dale residents will be admitted for $10 with proof of address.
